Re: MLB 09: The Show - Impressions

hmm this comeback mode concept is a little scary. Considering that I am considering buying a PS3 mainly for this game, this might be a game changer (and decision changer)

it seems like people either think the comebacks are obviously scripted, or that the idea is ridiculous. there is no one in the middle.

what is the honest truth- is this something to be concerned about? does it only happen on legend mode? does it really happen at all?

Ah, BK did you go in your old kiddy toy box and pull out your old toys? Do you have the GI Joe with the kung fu grip or the 6 million dollar man too? I still love legend and I have not seen the CPU comeback logic, but that is probably becasue I am better then anyone at this game.

I am not seeing it. When I blow a lead in a game it's usually because I'm not mixing up my pitches enough, or I'm trying to get too much out of a pitcher and blowing my location/energy.

This is how I see it as well while playing.

Call that guy a troll, but he has a point somewhat. I've seen this comeback AI so much already, I'm almost ready to give this game up.

Ok I had my 1st really weird game last night.
Playing at Detroit and leading 1-0 with Joba on the hill.
In the bottom of the 7th inning Detroit gets a man on 2nd and 3rd with 0 outs.
Next batter: Suicide squeeze. Batter misses the ball and Posada tags out the runner.
1 Out man on 3rd now.
Next batter: Suicide squeeze. Pops it up in front on plate and Posada catches the pop up and then throws back to 3rd for the DP. We get out of it.

              8th inning.
Detroit gets a man on 3rd with 1 out.
Suicide AGAIN. Yep..Pop up to Posada, throw back to 3rd for the DP.

On the 9th they go 1-2-3 vs Rivera and we win 1-0.

i would like to knwo about the catchup mechanic,

im wanting to get a ps3 for this game (considering it) but if there is even a remote bit of ai catchup then i know i wont like this game.

is there at least an option to cut it out?

or maybe we can push to get it toned down in the patch?

I did not even know there was an option, and did not have problems with this that did not feel outside of baseball, or my own wrong-doings for hanging pitches too far over the plate.

Is it on by default? And where is the option. LOL.

Re: MLB 09: The Show - Impressions

I have a question relating to stats. I am not a huge fan of baseball and haven't really paid attention to baseball statistics for many years. My question is if you are batting and you hit the ball to the shortstop and he bobbles it or throws it over the 1st basemans head(I know this is an error)does this count as a no at bat or does it count as a failed attemp? I had a game where I was 0-3 and I hit to SS and he bobbled it and didn't make a throw to first, should I now be 0-4 or 0-3? The game recorded it as a 0-4 and I was just curious. Also I thought a fielders choice didn't count as an at-bat. I hit into a fielders choice they got the out at second but I was safe at first and my statistics represented an 0-1. Am I not looking at this the right way? Just curious.

it's called baseball. Teams comeback a lot. I have seen teams blow 4-5 run leads in the 9th in real life. I would rather have the AI able to comeback in a game than not....I would say, change pitchers, make better pitches..

0-4 is right, you reached on an error.

I'm one of the few that liked 08 better too.
I'm seeing some flaws in the game that are killing it for me. It's just not as fun for me this year.
And I traded in my 360 for a PS3 just for The Show.

Whatever it's worth, I haven't seen comeback logic or whatever thus far. I started a franchise over the weekend after a handful of exhibition games and didn't really notice. I do think it is tough to pitch with mediocre relievers late in games or with a tiring starter which is about how it should be. I am 1-3 with the Yankees (no A-Rod) and lost a 15 inning 2-1 game to the Royals last night. I was winning 1-0 in the 7th, but Edwar Ramirez served up the lead, but Phil Coke got out of a bases loaded 1 out jam by striking out Gordon and Teehan. I would think that if there was comeback logic, the game would've beat me there.

People may have different experiences, but I just wanted to put the word out on the other side that I just don't see it. If I do, I will come back and say so.
