The same thing hapened to me today. I was pitching with Lackey and I threw a cutter on the inside part of the plate and my catcher appeared to get crossed up and it deflected off his mitt. The catcher stood up afterwards and hit his chest like he was saying, "my bad". I was impressed.

Also of note, no passed balls in the game, no wild pitches.

I will be going back to VET where I feel safer.
That doesn't count Jim! If you are using Auto Field then you get treated like the cpu. The slider works perfectly fine for the cpu. I see bobbles and errors when I max out the slider for them. I just don't see it for the user. Your experiment is null and void unless you use manual fielding. Come back to All-Star for a little! Just another game or two but you have to use manual fielding!

There was another thread where someone was seeing the same thing as me on All-Star. Is it possible that this is only related to the difficulty level? How are your fielder reaction times on HOF with the fielding error slider maxed out? Do balls ever go through them or right by them and you curse because they didn't make a play on the ball?
Sorry it took so long to get back to ya. I play with auto field on and control all the throws myself. I haven't seen a lot of balls going through my fielders. I get bobbles and bad throws to 1B.

I also play with auto baserunning. A very cool thing I discovered is that I still can control steal attempts. I get a speedster on base hit L1 to leadoff and L2 to steal. I'm loving it so far.

This isn't gameplay related at all. But the "Work, Work, Work" song is by my grade school best friend's band. They have been blowing up really quickly the past few months. It really surprised me when I first bought the game, turned it on and heard it.

I had to make it my at bat and home run celebration song.

I hope you all like it.

                  Sweet!

I know that my 3rd grade teacher submitted an accordian instrumental titled "Call in sick-play MLB 09, Call in sick-play MLB 09, Call in sick-play MLB 09" but it didn't make it into the game.

Crap Jackdog! I thought you were getting good numbers on HOF with manual fielding! This blows my theory of maybe moving up to HOF to see if I can fix this. I was hoping it might be isolated to All-Star. I've not gone 12 games on All-Star in my two seasons with 0 errors. The probability of that, even with a small sample size, is extremely low.

In the event that it may help, I've seen plenty of errors in just 7 games on HOF. I've seen Kemp clunk a fly ball, Loney get eaten up by a grounder, and Blake overthrow first a couple of times. Furcal has also made some drops in the transfer on the DP. I use manual fielding and throwing.

From my perspective, the variety in fielding is there, and it really adds to the game. There was one inning where I was up on the Pads in the late innings with one out and one on. I got a DP ball which Furcal dropped, and the extra chance blew the game open. I had another error that same inning, and I lost all control over the flow of the game.

Re: MLB 09: The Show - Impressions

I had an entertaining game last night.

I was playing the Mets in Spring Training and they jumped out 6-0 after the first two innings due to Kyle Lohse's inability to hit his spots. I got back into the game 6-3 after 5 thanks to homers by Greene and Joe Mather. In the 7th, the Mets go up 12-6 after Angel Pagan of all people jacks a grand salami off of Royce Ring. In the 9th, I scored 4 runs before getting my first out to make it 12-10, and then had men on first and second with no outs and Chris Duncan hits a monster shot into right that is caught at the wall. The runners moved up a base and next up was Ryan Ludwick. They put him on to bring up Brian Barden who was playing third. He hits a line drive that I thought was past the SS, but he lays out, snags the ball and flips it to the 2nd baseman while on the ground to double me up and end the game.

                        I love this game.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

I'm going to mess around with HOF and see if I can get some better results. After 20 games on All-Star, this is the one thing that sticks out like a sore thumb to me. Is HOF much harder than All-Star?

I only played 5-6 inning chunks on All Star, and I got too many hits for my taste. That could have just been a small sample size, but I can tell automatically that CPU hitters chase more, CPU pitches are less widely differentiated in terms of speed, CPU pitchers miss by greater distances, making reads on balls easier, etc.

On HOF, I'm genuinely afraid of good hitters. I have pitched plenty of low scoring games, but I have to be very smart with my pitches and with my pen. I went into the 7th with Lincecum, striking out 5 and allowing just one run, while walking two. I refused to give in to Braun and Fielder, put them on base, and got the rest of the guys out. On All Star I didn't feel that fear.

Offensively, I really like what I get on HOF. Great variety in terms of hits gotten, without the hitfest I got on All Star. I really only have trouble staying alive with two strikes, but I'm working on pitch recognition and fidldling with the fouls slider.

Other than that, it feels great. And the whole experience is very organic. Nothing feels cheap on HOF to me. When the errors come, they really impact the game, and they don't feel like randomly generated things just to get a certain number of them in there.

I think if you made the switch you might like it. The CPU pitching will be tougher, but that's a good thing long-term, imo.

You have to remember that I SUCK at hitting lol. I give myself boosts on All Star. I'm not really worried at all about pitching on HOF since I make it tough on me on All-Star. My biggest concerns will be with how many hits, walks and runs I can muster on HOF. But I will give it a shot.
                              Thanks.

P.S. What are your error sliders at on HOF?

I think if you get the pitch recognition down you'll find that you'll hit a lot better. I'm not good at it yet but am working hard at it. You definitely have to have a plan at the plate.

I don't have any sliders adjusted except the fouls slider, which I'm gonna fiddle with at +3 for a bit just to see what happens.

HOF will allow you not to have to handicap your pitching, and it will force you to maximize your talents to hit. I'm struggling right there with you man, but I love the challenge. Good luck!
