I had 2 no hitters thrown on the same day of my franchise.

D Owings and Brandon Backe each threw no-no's on the first day of June.

Finally pitched my 1st no-hitter...ever. I actually came close with Edwin Jackson twice (thru 7 innings) this season, but the rookie Rick Porcello was able to shut down the A's in Oakland. There were actually a couple of close plays that preserved the no-no too. Felt good , especially when the trophy chime sounded

I walked 1 in the 6th, which kept me from having a perfect game... As you can see, Porcello hasn't had the best season (record-wise), but he has pitched well all season. He has 4 "hard-luck" losses (offense let him down) in those 7 losses.

That's awesome SLAB, congrats on that achievement!

Hopefully I'll throw a no-hitter/perfect game one of these days.

One thing I hope they fix next year is the umpire's calls on balls and strikes when the setting is set to "make perfect calls". Even with the setting on umps still call strikes in the zone balls.

Re: MLB 09: The Show - Impressions

A landmark game, to be sure, but I had to sever my ties with it. After three months of various modes and difficulties, ranging from All-Star to Legend, the game usually put me in one of three states of mind... 1) Relief, not joy, when I managed to outlast the CPU on higher difficulties. 2) Frustration and bewilderment at just what exactly the condition for 'success' were in this game. 3) Pleasant but ultimately mindless time spent on All-Star, where I felt more able to influence the course of events (i.e. perfectly timed contact in your wheelhouse will get you something more often than not) but never threatened enough to make it interesting.

What never seemed to materialize was 'fun', simply put... and of course I kept going back to it over and over in an effort to figure out my relationship to the game, try and gain some understanding that would unlock all those potential good times that seemed just around the corner... like some weird abusive relationship. Recently, I thought that a keen focus on pitcher confidence would be the key to navigating those treacherous innings that always seemed to come around the in the 5th or 6th inning... where the game would often slip away for good. But all the patterns remained, regardless of mound visits, 'confident' relievers, nailing the meter, and so on and so forth.

The game is probably simulating baseball exquisitely, where you can do things right and still get beat, and conversely make mistakes but not always pay for them. It's certainly made me think a lot about what I want from a baseball game, because from all indicators this was going to be it, but it just never came together. Mostly, I want to to win and lose at a realistic clip, but have some inkling of why things go the way they do, so I can work on them. The balance of user input and feedback is still a little out of whack here, I think. Maybe it's too hard to do and still deliver realistic results, but if that's the case, I should just give up on this stuff and join a softball league. Sounds like a healthier plan all around anyway.

This game! I took a 3 week break when FN4 came out and yet here I am back again playing my O's franchise and losing (like the real O's). It's a real compliment to the MLB team that I keep coming back. I would rate baseball as my 3rd or 4th sport to follow yet I can't quit this game! Kudos to you SCEA!

you know what i hate about this game, high strikes. I always pop these up i check the replay i have perfect timing and the balls are at the letters these pitches should def leave the outfield yet i popped them up to the pitcher

Kash...when you look at the swing analysis, where is the ball making contact with the bat? It could be that you're swinging underneath the ball a bit which is causing you to pop it up.

once again i saw something new while playing today. usually the pregame screen shows players warming up or whatever, but today i saw a shot from behind home plate of brian mcann and all four umpires lined up at home plate during the national anthem. other players were lined up in the outfield or their respective positions. i have seen shots of indivdual players during the anthem, but never of all the umps and players on the field. it was pretty neat, mainly becuz it surprised me. i had thought i'd seen every pre-game shot, but apparantely not
