color me impressed. My first two hits were doubles down the LF line that rolled to the wall. So one of my biggest beefs with 08 is already fixed

Re: MLB 09: The Show - Impressions

Simmed a season of Franchise to see how it would play out. Loved the new additions like arbitration, bidding in free agency, a calendar schedule, rule 5, mid season draft, etc.

Free agency played out much better than in year's past. Available free agents were Matt Holliday, John Lackey, Vlad Guerrero, Ben Sheets, Bobby Abreu, Josh Beckett, Jason Varitek, and host of other big name players. The key was that all of the free agents I saw available seemed to be the true 2010 Free Agent class. The only odd ones were Andre Either and Rich Harden, altough I'm not sure if Harden is truly a free agent at the end of this year or not. Most of the big named guys that I didn't go after resigned with their own teams. Here is how it played out for my Mets:

        1. I offered Matt Holiday a 6 year 14 million per year and he ended up with the Braves at 3 years 16 million per year. Nice to see you don't necessarily get a player just by outbidding.

        2. John Lackey took less money to resign with the Angels.

        3. I signed Bengie Molina to a 2 year 15 million dollar deal.

        4. Offered Sheets 1 year and 16 million but Philly gave him a six year deal.

        5. Then went after Harden and lost out to the Cubs.

        6. Signed Andre Either to a 5 year 25 million dollar deal (again, kind of strange).

        7. Will Ohman took a 2 year 6 million dollar deal over more money from another team.

The only thing that bothered me was the following:

A-rod retired because of free agent market
Oliver Perez also retired because of free agent market.
Manny Ramirez retired (which may be more of a function of him having been on the free agent list to star the season).

Trade logic seemed ok, but I will test more of that.

An oddity I noted in simming a season of Franchise (again, much more testing would be needed) was that there were no starting pitchers available in the second round of the draft (when I had my first pick).

However, it is fantastic to draft mid season, offer arbitration to players, and to see star players show up in the free agent list, most of which are truly free agents next offseason.

OK guys... 1 game in the books... Game is freakin' UNBELIEVABLE!! I wanna first say that it seems a bit different than the demo. I played on HOF, switched up a few sliders. Lowered contact sliders for human. Played great although I lowered fielder speed by 2 notches which seemed like too much but i'll see what others do for sliders.

Is it just me or are the load times kind of long. When I first start up the game the screen stays blank for quiet a while. Is this happening to anyone else.

After one season this is strange not only because he is young but he also has a 10-year contract now.

Re: MLB 09: The Show - Impressions

I am in love with this game. Best sports game ever made, period. Nothing comes close to the Show. Won my first game on Legend in my third attempt.

First attempt was with the Cards and Wainwright, against the Indians and reigning AL Cy Young winner, Cliff Lee. Was going pretty well until the wheels came off of Wainwright. Next thing I know its 8-1 in the 7th inning. I battled back, but ultimately lost 8-4.

Second attempt was with the Yanks and CC, against the O's and Jeremy Guthrie. I fared a little bit better but even home runs by Teixeira and A-Rod couldn't save me, and I was defeated 8-7.

The third and only successful attempt was with the Cards and 2005 Cy Young winner Chris Carpenter, against the Pirates and young stud Ian Snell. I went up 1-0 on a Chris Duncan home run, and held the lead until the top of the seventh, when the Cardinal killer Nate McLouth deposited a ball into the right-field seats. Down 2-1 going into the bottom of the 8th, the Cards were looking for baserunners.

Joe Mather led off the inning with a shot down the left-field line, setting Pujols up to provide the heroics. Pujols got a Tyler Yates slider and took it deep to left-field. A no doubter that hit off the second deck wall.

A double switch in the 9th puts Perez on the hill, Barden at third, and Mather in right, to replace the fielding-impaired Duncan. Good thing I made the switch, because the first two batters hit sharp liners to third, which Barden handled with ease. With two outs and nobody on, Perez got Freddy Sanchez to pop up to Molina, GAME OVER.

Just had an amazing 6-4 Battle as The Brewers (me) were able to hold off the Pirates at Miller Park.

Miller Park looks amazing in an afternoon game. The shadows are unreal.

Bill Hall hit 2 HRs in the game. Must have been pissed after having to listen to 3B umpire WOODY KELLER talk in his ear all game.

picked it up last nite and played 4 innings before bed. Angels vs Rangers on Legend. I led 2-1 after 4 with both of my runs coming in the 1st and 4th inning with HRs by Josh "Hamslam" Hamilton! I got ahead in the count vs Lackey and both times he grooved fastballs that I turned on! The 2nd was an absolute blast into the upper deck. I'm going to upload the video this evening.

The game plays a lot smoother than the demo. They got Hamilton's stance right on. Last year's was all wrong. Also noticed they got Torii Hunter's signature style right.

I think this is the longest initial load up we have seen. But from the opening scenes until you can press start it is just about the same as 08. At SD we had both versions going at one point to compare different things.

To your point, there seems to be some extra blank screen time until you see the playstation 3 screen come up.

Played more last night, and Legend seems the way to go, It seems really fair believe it or not, I was lost my game, but that because I left Santana in too long and pushed him in the 9th with no energy. Anyway, my only little issue is, the pitch count for the starter for the CPU, It doesn;t help that I swing at everything either.
