Re: MLB 09: The Show - Impressions

I have only seen a mascot once, mostly because I don't watch that many cut-scenes.
Well, watch the cut scenes and you'll see the mascots, lol. They ARE there. Sort of like saying that you keep pressing X and don't see any batters walkups.

I just think too much time was spent on cutscenes and not enough on pitching deliveries, stances and fielding animations...

I thought the progressive lighting was supposed to be dependant on the time of the year...I simmed halfway through a season and played a game on June 20th (longest day of the year) and the sun was still about to set during the first inning. I think SCEA should have focused on daylight progressing to afternoon...night games get dark too quickly for the middle of summer. I have left a game that started at 6pm and it was still daylight at 8:45.

I sort of disagree with you here. Although, deliveries and stances are important, but what really makes this game great and realistic are the cutscenes. This game gathers all the little nuances and superstitions so well that baseball carries.

I think if they only had a baseball game that had all the perfect pitcher deliveries, stances, and fielding animations, it would be incredibly boring. IMO, there would be nothing to keep you coming back.

edit: Not worth all the words.

              There are different departments.
"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Hmmm...these two posts seem to contradictory to me. On the one hand you say they spent to much time on cutscenes and not enough time on stances/deliveries, and then in the very next post you want them to match the amount of daylight to the day of the year? Are we still talking about baseball anymore?

I just think there's not enough daylight to appreciate the progression of the shadows...I would rather see day to afternoon progression...

MLB 09 feels more like MLB 8.5 to me...the main difference is the lighting, and the outfield angles on the ball...

I'm not saying it's not a good game, I just wish there was more focus on signature player animations instead of mascot animations and jumbotrons and more cutscenes...

It took them a lot of time to get the lighting where it is right now. They stated that afternoon progression just couldn't make it in this year.

You keep saying this like they only have 10 guys and all of them are spending time on the same thing.

                                Ok - Minor rant.....

The Trophies in this game are waaaayyyyy to RTTS oriented(I don't even play that mode) and outside of that they are few and far in between. That sucks. And to make matters worse - I just shut out the Phillies - At Citizens Bank - on Allstar...and for some reason I didn't get my much deserved trophy!!! The outrage!!! It's bad enough I probably won't get 95% of the trophies on this game..but when I do qualify for one...give it to me dangit!!!

That's all I got. LOVE this game.
