So I am pitching in the third season of RTTS at AAA and have a no-no going through five innings. Top of the sixth I have to bat and the pitcher blows one right into my head and injures me and ends my night.

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread

first off, newbie to the forums, not to the game

just started my RTTS in 09, my 08 RTTS was as a 2B for the Mets, then Rockies, then finally Yankees... but I made the mistake of adjusting the sliders to make it easier to set records and it took alot of the fun out of 08 for me

so, just got my copy of 09 (hadda wait til a friend was done lol, with NHL 10 being $70 its the only sports game I'm going to buy each year from now on) and I started my RTTS as a SP, and boy was that the best decision I ever made lol

I LOVE this years version. Right away I didn't touch any sliders, playing all on default... I know enough about baseball to catch any red-flags to unrealistic gameplay, but not enough to tweak the sliders myself, ya know...

Anyway, got drafted as an 18 year old by the Orioles and promptly placed in their AA Bowie Baysox' bullpen. I had a solid first half of the year coming in for relief and was moved up to starer a few weeks before the AA All-Star Game, which I made and pitched one inning.

The Baysox, despite my efforts on the mound, were a terrible team, and we didn't make the playoffs (I think I went 12-8 for the season, ERA around 4.15, forget the exact stats)

Then, after the AA season, the Orioles decide they want a look at me, so they call me up to the majors, as an 18 year old pitcher! Well, needless to say, I got friggin' SHELLED hahaha, I mean, embarassingly bad. MLB hitters were just sending my stuff flying.

I did so poorly in fact, that about 1.5 months into my second year (a year I started on the Orioles' AAA Norfolk Tides) I was traded to Pittsburgh for a 2B, and placed in the bullpen of the AAA Indianapolis Indians.

I've been pitching great for the Indians, 9-2 record, under 3 ERA, 3 walks all season (I rarely walk anybody, I'm all about control and working the count rather than trying to overpower my opponents with SO's). Was named started for the IL in the AAA All-Star game, where I pitched 2 shutout/hitless innings with two looking K's. AAA playoffs aren't looking too good, but ya never know. Maybe I'll get called up to the Pirates this year and not get the bejesus beaten out of my pitches this time.

Okay I think I'm done rambling. Anyway, I love this game. It's not easy at all, but it's also not infuriatingly challenging (IMO). In AA my teammates sucked at fielding, and in AAA they suck too lol, but they're better. To be able to see the difference between the two levels has been pretty cool.

The only thing I wish was better, which goes back to 08, is the RTTS manager. Still feels like they're not watching the actual game... for example, I'm told to get a ground ball for a DP with a man on 1st. I get that ground ball, but idiot at 3B bobbles it and we don't get any outs. I, as a pitcher, shouldn't lose points, (or at least a full -10!) because my fielders can't make plays lol... sometimes it cancels or changes the goal for this, sometimes it doesnt.

Also, if you tell me to get ahead in the count, and I throw 1 ball, then get the guy to pop out, I wouldn't call that "Failed -5" lol

Just joined the 50/50 club on RTTS with my third baseman. I think they'll pretty soon learn to quit throwing me heaters inside.

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread

I made a power hitting 1B for the Indians and I've been playing him for a while. The entire point was to make more of a Ryan Howard than an Albert Pujols (power but with strikeouts and a .280 or so BA)

Except even with just 71/66 contact, playing on legend, no guess pitch, and -5 to contact he's hitting .331 at the all-star break his rookie year. So I guess I made Albert Pujols after all. :\

Edit: Except without the doubles because for some reason they're way too scarce this year. So I hit hard grounders through the infield and bombs and that's basically it.

Absolutely not, unless you don't mind playing in the Minors for the remainder of your baseball career.

Don't worry about achieving 100% of the goals, 50-75% of them will be sufficient in order to keep your Manager happy.

                            I'm so frustrated............

In my first few games of season 1 in AA, my 1B is doing well.
                            I have a very good avg (.380) and a .550 OBP.
So i have been on base near 25 times.
And I have 1 run!!! (just after my solo shot!)
The guys behind me are struggling all the times.
The last time, i was on third with no out and the 3 guys behind me struck out...

                            Very frustrating.

Does anyone have tips for a closer? I'm with the Orioles in AA; I was the setup man but have been promoted to closer about a month into the season. Are there pitching tips and/or point-earning tips that anyone is willing to share?

Has anyone had a long career as a leadoff hitter? My SS with the Mariners was hitting 2nd his first two years, which was fine because I didn't expect to take the spot from Ichiro. Now he's retired (despite winning the batting title last year and being 2 seasons away from 3000 hits) and they have me hitting THIRD. My power is only 50/50 but with my high contact and the rest of the team being crap, apparently I'm the best option there.

It makes me want to start over but I'm not sure if I wouldn't just run into the same problem with any team. At what point do you get moved down in the lineup despite being the fastest guy by far on the team? Do I need to dock his power or will high contact put him there anyway?
