Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread

Apologies if this has been discussed already as I haven't read all 170+ pages of this...

Is it just me or is it absolutely impossible to succeed as a closer in RTTS? I played three seasons and not only couldn't rise above AA (despite pretty darn good stats as a setup man), but the real issue was I couldn't improve my ratings; after three pro seasons I still had a D rating! The issue clearly is that because you don't have enough opportunities to complete objectives within the course of a game, you don't get a chance to acquire enough training points to improve your ratings. I played 20 seasons as a starting pitcher in '08 and had a great pro career.

Anyway, has anyone else who tried to be a closer in RTTS run into this issue?

Is there any way to go back and look at your old minor league stats once you get to the majors?! I've seen a loading screen that had that info but I can't find it anywhere that is accessible within the game.

Update on my SP (previous post: http://www.osatwork.com/forums/showpost.php?p=2039567294&postcount=1253)

2011: 12-7 2.48 ERA (Traded from Brewers to Padres)
          2012 (Mid-Sept.): 10-7 2.78 ERA (Padres)

I've gotten little-to-no run support this year. If I'm remembering correctly, the lines from my last 3 games look like this:

          at COL (L): 7IP 2R 1ER
          at PIT (L): 7.2IP 2R 1ER
          vs. PHI (L): 8IP 1R 0ER

Also, the bullpen stinks it up big time....I have 12 NDs out of 29 starts...with at least half of those where I left the game in the 7th with a 1-2 run lead. At this point, I'm just looking to play out the contract (year 2 of 4) and hopefully sign with a team that has at least some offense.

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread

I'm new here, but I registered to share my story in hopes I can get some answers and thoughts. Seems alot of you are as addicted to RTTS as I am. I'll keep it as short as possible.

I made a Catcher, hit the draft and was signed Bench AA for the O's. 1 year deal. Spent a full season in AA, worked my way to starter, made allstar game...believe I batted a .412 or something.

Signed another 1 year deal with the O's, spent the entire season in AAA, had another good year, but was injured for about 2 1/2 months.

O's was my only offer again in the 3rd offseason and they wouldnt accept anything lower than a 4 year deal. With my hand forced I accepted. Entering the season I was the starting AAA catcher, but was bumped 1 month in with an injury to both pro catchers. they ended up trading one and my play was soo good i kept the starting spot and ended up winning rookie of the year and hank aaron award...

fast foward 3 seasons, i win MVP all 3, plus alot of other accolades including single season hit record, etc... The O's are a bad bad team. Ranked bottom in pitching every season and always trading away the talent around me... so i figure im going to hit the road, surely other teams want the best catcher in the league..but before i know it, the O's claim arbitation on me? Now im stuck another season with this team?

being a die hard football fan, only thing i can compare this to is a franchise tag? how many times can they do this to me? we ended up agreeing on a 1 year ($10mil) deal, but im afraid its only going to happen again next offseason?

on top of that, i said screw it and just started aiming for the fences, trying to get that home run record, and ended up getting benched for a week? anytime i ask for a trade they tell me its not logical?

anyone else have the same problem? is it going to happen to me next off season?

Does anybody notice that a Rookie starting pitcher, cannot win the Rookie Of The Year Award. I even won the CY Young award, and didn't win ROY, wtffff

Hope this hasn't been asked already, but in my RTTS I had an injury but decided to play through it, meaning I get no training points. Now I've fully recovered from my injury but I'm still not getting any training points. Any help?

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread

After a somewhat lengthy hiatus, I resumed my career as a Toronto SP. I am currently the staff ace (Halladay retired. They really need to fix this for 2010) in my 2nd ML (4th overall) season and having an OK season, but I'm noticing a pattern. I started of the season awesome, going 6-1 with a 2.15 ERA in my first 8 starts. But now, in mid August, I am 7-5 with a 3.71 ERA. This has been the story of my career, minors included. I start off like a ball of fire and then fizzle.

edit - On the heels of posting this, I went and twirled a 4 hit shutout. Go fig.

I have a closer and he's in his second season; he has moved up to being the AAA closer after spending his first year as the AA setup man (a month or so) then the AA closer. I am getting a lot of opportunities to pitch for my club, which is a good team that wins a lot of close games. You apparently do not have that luxury.
I would recommend saving after every game you pitch, and if it goes too long without giving you an opportunity on the schedule stop simming and reload, then try again--you will not get the same results on the simming, so just don't take no for an answer and get more appearances in so you can build on those stats. Hope that helps a bit.

I just finished my 3rd season with my RF that is now 21. I hit .331 with 35 hr's and 118 rbi's. I was drafted by the White Sox but was traded in my first year while in AA to Oakland for Jack Cust. I made the team out of spring by the start of year 3. Before that season I signed a 1 year deal worth $650,000. I thought after a great year I could move on to a better team. We finished 30 out but I won 3 awards (Hank Aaron, Silver Slugger, Gold Glove). So I just knew that I would get a team like Boston or New York offering me a contract. I was wrong the only deal I got was from Oakland. A 7 year $44.5 million deal so I took it. I'm rated as the 6th beat RF in MLB and no team wanted me at all. Has this happened to anyone before? I hate to loose and that is all we do.

You need to wait 6 years (from the beginning) before your a free agent. I think. I'm not so familiar with the MLB free agency.

Just bought the Show two weeks ago. The game is unbelievable. This is first time playing the game. Also I'm playing on a PSP. I went straight to RTTS and have been playing it since. I'm a first baseman who is 18 yrs old. I was drafted by the Astros and was offered a three year contract for 150K. I went through spring training hitting 260. I didn't understand the goal system and I made my person a power hitter instead building up contact. I was sent to AA. I played on rookie since the game was still challenging to me. In April I thought about retiring since I was batting 130. In May however I was hit 600. I just saw the ball better and in June I finally understand how to earn points and used them for goal(should have read the manual). My team however was bad and were a 400 team. I don't remember my stats completely but it was in this range

                              BA: 360
                              Hits: 130
                              HR: 13
                              RBI: 70
                              K: 60
                              SB:0
                              CS:10
                              R:50
                              Doubles: 30
                              Triples:1
                              E: 2

I thought I was going to be traded since they have Lance Berkman and don't need another first baseman. Also the AAA 1B got hurt for 2 months and they wanted to send me up three times but said I didn't have the experience while hitting 400 in that month. I am now in AAA but I haven't started yet because the game is too addictive and I wanted to do other things like play the guitar or math. You guys have interested stories and I enjoy reading them. I also change the setting to veteran since rookie is not a challenge anymore

LOL! Glad you are having a great time playing it man. It probably is one of the best game modes out there. I'm really looking forward to the similar mode in NBA 2k9
