Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread
That's 100% incorrect.
OBP = (Hits + Walks + Hit by Pitch) / (At Bats + Walks + Hit by Pitch + Sacrifice Flies)
So if you have more sac flies than walks, you will have a higher AVG than OBP.
So it's not a bug. It's just a sign that you should be more patient at the plate and draw some walks.

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread
Quick question about training your hitters with BP. How exactly does it work, do you choose what your work on then go and take swings? For example if I want to work on my discipline do I see 'X' number of pitches in and out of the zone and depending on how I do, I get a certain amount of points toward my discipline?Comment

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread
The manager chooses when you bp, who you face and what type of pitches they throw (sometimes only 1 type, sometimes all). You get 20 pitches. Even if manager chooses one type (ie CB) the pitcher will throw 7-8 fastballs. My RTTS is in AA mid April and has had 5 or 6 bp so far.
• You can influence fly/grounders with right stick
• you can use power swing
• you can bunt (+bunt)
• fouls give you vis
• line drives give con and sometimes pwr if hit hard
• balls give you disc
• fly ball gives con/pwr/vis depending on distance
• weak dribbles/chops/pop ups give 0
• swing and miss get -con/disc/vis
• Non swing get 0
• homeruns get... I'll let you know when I hit oneLast edited by kilmar1; 03-04-2009, 12:50 PM.Comment

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread
started at 40 contact for lefties and rights and 25 power or there abouts. by the end of season one i was 48/49 contact and 30/31 power (R/L).
I'm hoping to be a 1/2 type hitter so I've also put points into speed. I have that up to 56 with my drag bunt at 27.
honestly its tough to balance what you want to do with what your team is trying to get you to do.If you can read this, you don't need glasses.Comment

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread
I think the mode is solid. Has its warts but overall will give him hours of entertainment. There is still no game that can hold a candle to it so it's tough to criticize much. I've played mostly as a reliever so my impressions are based on that. Here are a few things I did notice though.
1) Relievers are treated weird. As a setup man I was used in almost every game. They never wanted to give me a day off. I could pitch 10 straight games and pitch 3 innings in the last one and still be thrown in there. The closer was also not given days off. In a 17 inning game he pitched 8 innings. He had pitched the previous 3 games and then pitched in the next 3 games. I don't know if this is an issue with fatigue not working properly or the RTTS manager not factoring it in.
2) When I pitched as a setup man was odd too. As a setup man I'd get thrown into all sorts of situations. Sometimes I'd get one batter out and then pulled. That's fine if it was for a L/R matchup they wanted, but they'd often put another reliever in that was also a lefty. One time in a blowout they let me hit, then pulled me after I retired the first batter in the next inning.
3) As a closer some of these things got fixed. I pitched in less games and mainly in save scenarios. But sometimes I'd go on a week long string of pitching in every game, including non-save spots. Weird situations like down 7-0 in the 5th inning and finishing off the game. It seems like the issue is that the computer is quick to pull relievers and ends up with only his closer or top setup man left in the middle of the game. This means that you are basically the guy who has to pitch the rest of the game. I had a 12 inning game that saw me pitch 6 innings as a closer. The game needs to give those innings to long relievers and mop-up men.
4) The person ahead of you on the depth chart doesn't seem to stand a chance no matter what he does. As a setup man I was solid posting a 1.98 ERA. Our closer though was amazing. He had a 0.54 ERA and was 14/14 in save attempts. They gave me the spot though. My ratings weren't great, but I had done a good job at doing most of the achievements they had asked. Perhaps this was an issue of them feeling I had more potential long term, but I hope it's not built so that my competition's performance doesn't matter. The e-mail I had received said the promotion was based on my performance on the field and that they normally don't give these to people who haven't developed more.
5) The point system seems spot-on. I know some had mentioned that some of the goals asked during the game were impossible, as a reliever it seems spot-on. Most of the goals involved things like striking out a certain batter, enducing a ground ball double play, or not allowing a runner on 2nd/3rd to score.
6) Load times really suck and it feels like you're loading more than playing.Comment

I forgot about figuring in sac flies. Thanks! That's 100% incorrect.

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread
done with my 1st season as my SS hit around .360 with 188 hits 7hrs and 74 RBI
right now both contacts are above 53, power above 30, speed is 66, throwing is at 60 and other crap is around 40 except bunting which is still in the 30's
was resigned to a 1 yr 322K contract to play ss @ AAA for the orioles funny thing was they put me on the trading block during july but couldnt move me which really made me mad but i only got 1 offer and it was from them so i had to take it i was also invited to spring training but saw very few ABs witch sucked
ive tried the RP out i didnt like it because if you got sent to CP you were F'd up because you might see 2 innings a week if your lucky, that would slow down your progression and it would also get the coach mad at you because it is impossible to reach the goals playing that spot and the CPU fielding really doesnt help you out at all, the cpu would make an error then the guy would come around to score and they would count it as a ER instead of a R
but is anyone a catcher yet that would comment if its any fun being oneComment
