Playing on HoF. Have seen 4-5 throwing errors, both CPU and User. Other than that, zero fielding errors. A few bobbled ground balls, only one of which resulted in a late throw and the runner being safe. But it wasn't called an error. I haven't seen either a ground ball error or a dropped fly ball error since MLB 06 (didn't play 07, and didn't see any errors, period, in 08). I'm puzzled why SCEA hasn't addressed this, given I hear the PS3 version isn't any better.

I've seen easy grounders go through infielders legs for both user and cpu. Granted just a handful of times in about 40 games.Comment

Re: PS2 Impressions thread
But were they ruled errors? I think that may just be a flaw in the fielding.
I dont know why this game cant get errors right. Hell, even baseball games on the Nintendo did errors better.Comment

Re: PS2 Impressions thread
I've never seen this (only what bsb13 said which is not an error in the game) in over 70 games played, and fielder error bar maxed. What I don't like about this feature is that this game doesnt allow you to sort of control when you make an error, they seem to be more random than anything.Comment

Re: PS2 Impressions thread
I think I've finally settled on sliders for this. Playing at All-Star, I keep pretty much everything at default, except for:
Fouls +3
CPU Pitch Consistency -3
CPU Strike Frequency -5
User Starter Stamina +2
CPU Manager Hook +2
User Solid Hits +1 (I'm a swing-only guy so need to boost it a little to make up for not using the L-stick)
I've been getting some great games with these settings the past week. I'm using the Rockies and am 2-5 right now; should be 4-3 but the bullpen's blown 2 saves.Currently Playing:

Re: PS2 Impressions thread
Has anyone come across a bug where you pinch hit for your pitcher, but when you try to bring someone in from the bullpen it tells you that you have a postion player on the mound, and you have to pitch to one batter with him before it will let you bring in a reliever. I came across this during a road game in spring training.Comment

Re: PS2 Impressions thread
bsb,
I've seen this. I got it to work correctly, but not sure if I can remember right. I may be off a bit, but I got it to work without pitching to a batter with my pinch hitter. I got the message and then went back to the pen. I got the message that informed me I had a position player on the hill. Then I hi-lighted my reliever and it asked if i wanted to put him in, sit him down, double switch. I hit cancel. I think I did something else. (I'm at work and am still working on my coffee so I'm a bit slow this morning) Anyway, when I hit cancel, I went back to the game and lo and behold, my reliever is coming in. You have to play around a bit, but I did get it to work right. I bet someone else here can explain it better, but you can get around it.

Re: PS2 Impressions thread
Its good to know that it is possible to work around it. I had it happen to me twice the last game I played, but since it was only a spring training game it didnt bother me all that much. Next time I will play around with it a little more.bsb,

Re: PS2 Impressions thread
Good news and bad news
Bad news - I got this bug to happen again and I tried everything I could to get around it to no avail. I had to at least throw one pitch to the batter before it would let me bring in a reliever.
Good news - Only road games in spring training seem to have this bug. I haven't seen it happen at home games in spring training or home/away games in the regular season. But so far it happens every single time I pinch hit for a pitcher in an away spring training game.
Looks like I wont be playing any road games in spring training anymore. I'm actually relieved because if this was happening in regular season games it would have been a game killer for me.Comment

Re: PS2 Impressions thread
Hmm...haven't seen this yet. I do notice that sometimes when you access the bullpen, the left analog stick doesn't work for whatever reason, so you have to switch to the D-pad to select the pitcher you want to bring in.Currently Playing:

You've never seen it when playing as the away team in spring training? Because I think its just isolated to that.Comment

Re: PS2 Impressions thread
Has anyone else noticed that the 2008 stats are all messed up?
When they show the intros and show last year's stats for pitchers and batter most of them (if not all, not sure abou that) are wrong as well as the stats on the 'player cards' accessed from the roster...
I really don;t recall this being the case in previous versions...
Kinda stinks b/c I've heard Matt talk about a players dominace in 2008 while the visual shows mediocre or nearly non-existant stats...Comment

Re: PS2 Impressions thread
I know that happened to me in 08 when I downloaded SCEA roster updates. I haven't played this game in a few weeks, so I don't remember if it's a problem in the regular rosters or not this year.Has anyone else noticed that the 2008 stats are all messed up?
