BSB, I think it may be time to get the slim. I remember you posting about framerate issues you were experiencing in Madden as well.

This game plays smooth for me (I have a slim, 3 months old). Only thing is there are long load times post-game returning to the main menu, but in terms of gameplay, no hiccups.

Hate to see you not able to fully enjoy these great sports games on PS2. With Madden, NCAA and now The Show, I'm good to go.

Can someone make a quick check to see if those problems I posted are in the PS2 version? I'm considering buying this game, but I want to see if this issue is in or not.

Unfortunately it seems like this is the case. I just hate to go out and buy a new PS2 when I already have a PS2 lol. I guess if I want smooth frame rate I'm gonna have too. It sucks because its only the newer games...my older games run smooth as butter.

Anyway, this game is still great, and with the new legend mode it is finally challenging.

I have an old big PS2 and have seen no problems except for the meter on left-handed pitchers which has been around since as long as I can remember. That's the only time it's any kind of choppy and even then it's barely noticeable and doesn't effect the meter at all.

The pitcher/batter interface is real smooth. After a fielder has caught the ball everything is smooth...its only when the ball is in play that the frame rate gets a little suspect. I'm fairly sure its just my old PS2 though.

I have to say that curve balls are pretty vicious this year. It seems like they have more "snap" to them.

To be honest, I think it's because the PS2 doesn't have bugs/glitches. I have yet to see anything "bad" happen...of course I've also only been playing exhibition games too until the roster update comes out.

                    Re: PS2 Impressions thread

i've played a couple games and i came across a bug i think. I bat for the pitcher and the next inning it says i have a position player on the mound. But i cant replace him. It says he must pitch to one batter. So i have to pitch a batter with my position player and then i can replace him. No double switch option until i pitch to a batter. Very frustrating.

Also i have seen a few line drives where it will just give me an outfielder and not allow me to field it, even though it goes right over they're heads. I have also once where a line drive to right and it goes right through the player. Dunno if i like it more than 08 or not. Never had these probs with 08

Baa are you playing on an HDTV? Can you play with MiLB teams in exhibition mode?

                      Thanks
I am playing on an 51" HDTV and it doesn't look 'that' bad. I took the Sharpness almost all the way down and that seems to help. Honestly it looks better than I expected. There is a widescreen mode buried in the settings in the game, that also helped. My guess is it would look even better on a smaller HD, like a 40". I have one of those too so I will try it eventually.

As for the game itself, I'm glad I picked this up - especialy for $6 after trade ins. I have a 360 but after reading all of the issues with 2K9 I just didn't want to be bothered, especially for $60 or even $40 after my trade ins.

I had the last 2 2K games so I am re-learning The Show. I couldn't hit much last night but it will come. I also pitched so-so, probably throwing too many strikes. These aren't issues with the game but with the user. I have no idea how to run the bases, but I'll figure it out.

Hmm, I have a "fat" PS2. I'm not sure how old it is since I bought it off Craigslist. When I rented The Show 08, I didn't have any framerate issues, but it sounds like they are limited to 09 games. Makes me a little nervous to get 09.

I pinch hit last night and got the message about having a position player pitching, however I was able to properly replace him without him having to pitch to a hitter. At least it's not a consistent issue. Did you maybe select to let him pitch first and then try to replace him? Just a thought as to why it would make him pitch.

Also, do Cubs only play day games on Sundays in franchise mode?(Easy way to see if schedules are messed up)
As for your rosters question, I made a bunch of changes last night (ie Manny to the Dodgers) and saved them. I started a Franchise and there is a roster question - use Current, Default or Saved. The first time I picked Current and I saw Manny on the FA list. I backed out and then choose Saved and Manny was with LA.

I didn't get into Franchise really so I didn't look at the schedules. I saw in the PS3 impressions that the Cubs play a lot of weeknight games, but in the afternoon on Sunday. However I don't know if this applies to the PS2 version.

Uh-oh. I have a fat boy and after reading your posts am getting nervous. Last year my 08 copy would get to the load screen and freeze. Never put 2 and 2 together - I thought it was just a bad disc. How much do slims go for?
I did get the game yesterday. I only had enough time for a few innings. The game booted up just fine and I didn't have any issues with graphics. Then again, I'm a veteran of High Heat, so Atari 2600 style graphics would probably have me raving! Can't wait to get into this starting tomorrow night.
Thank you all for your impressions. I am enjoying all your posts and can't wait to post a few of my own!
