Re: Why no WBC in this game?
Yeesh, what a venemous thread.
I see the original poster's point that a heavily MLB sponsored tournament like the WBC being absent from an MLB game where the addition might be a valuable selling point is at least worth asking about.
But the OP also has to see the point that others are making that the licensing of players outside of the MLBPA and perhaps the tournament itself (which is a sanctioned International Baseball Federation tournament) very difficult to obtain, especially when the different rights holders aren't as well organized as say FIFA (Soccer is).
And in a game that was accenting realism, having a tournament with fake players, fake uniforms and fake fields to get around any potential rights violations might be counter productive.
Valid points all around...Personally I kind of hope for the next go around in 2013 all the different stakeholders get together and figure out a way to cross license so it can be added...even if it's just to add another layer of realism (ie. as a Franchise GM sweating every two years that your stars are going to come back crocked)Last edited by Inhocmark; 03-09-2009, 08:51 PM.PSN ID: InhocmarkComment

Re: Why no WBC in this game?
Fake players is the easiest to get around. Sports gamers have dealt with fake players for almost two decades. Lucky us, there's a thing called "edit player."
Getting the rights to teams is not as much of a problem, as it is an inconvenience.
The only real issue is stadiums.Comment

Which is more proof that exclusive licensing is bad for gamers. Since the WBC is not even in the 2K owned License game as well.
Anyhow, I could have sworn a dev confirmed it not too long ago, it was impractical (or something to that effect) to secure the license... which led me to think some kind of bid war would have happened (and not worth it IMO).Ⓥ Boston Red Sox | Miami DolphinsComment
