Re: Big Papi David Ortiz throws a one hit gem!
I'm going to try this with Carlos Quentin, then again, it's Quentin, so he will probably throw a perfect game anyway.Comment

LOL - so I'm either stupid or a liar. If that's how you want to be then maybe you're an SCEA dev who's trying to quelch complaints?
Also, I forgot to note earlier that Ortiz did not warm up at all. Since he was a switch hitter who took over the mound there was no option to warm him up in the bullpen. You can only do that to pitchers.
If anyone doubts this feel free to try it yourself. Just take note of the situation - were you winning, losing, tied etc. Please post the results especially if you test it on other levels.Last edited by swaldo; 03-09-2009, 04:59 PM.Comment

Re: Big Papi David Ortiz throws a one hit gem!
I just tried doing this. I put in Quentin for Buehrle. When it came time to pitch, Lance Broadway is magically pitching instead of Quentin....Comment

Don't use the fast forward option - it will auto replace with a pitcher. I had to restart the game after doing that in my first game and I was ticked because Ortiz threw a shutout inning. I never expected to start again and see him throw 6 more.Comment

Re: Big Papi David Ortiz throws a one hit gem!
Here is the steps I took:
1. Select exhibition game. In the pre-game menus change batting order placing Papi on the bench.
2. Play game and wait until your pitcher is at bat.
3. Call in a pitch hitter.
4. Play as normal and wait until inning is over (do not use fast forward.) It will then ask if you want to make a sub. Just ignore & go back into the game.
5. Your pitcher will now be on the mound. When you're done pitching in that inning do not use fast forward to go to the next inning or the CPU will put a pitcher on the mound.Last edited by swaldo; 03-09-2009, 05:14 PM.Comment

Just like the Babe.May 6, 1998: 9 IP, 1 H, 0 BB, 20 K
Thanks to all that helped with the Baltimore Orioles roster, and to N51_rob for making me an OS premium member.

Re: Big Papi David Ortiz throws a one hit gem!
Ok, I got it to work.
Quentin is through 3 IP. 2 H, 0 R, 1 K, 0 BB
Interesting thing to note is that I am doing all bunting with my hitters to get it over with. So far, Alexei Ramirez, Thome, Owens, and AJ (twice) all have infield singles on bunts to 3rd. Zambrano takes way too long with the ball, and I am beating them out. All the times he has made the out have been very close.Comment

Re: Big Papi David Ortiz throws a one hit gem!
Yeah, I agree, I think this comeback thing must be on....
Quentin had gone 8 IP, 6 H, 0 BB, 1 K, 0 R.
I was winning 1-0. Q had thrown 5 double plays, and all their hits were little flairs, nothing hit hard. Then in the 9th. They get 4 hits, and score 2 runs to win. I call bull****.Comment

Re: Big Papi David Ortiz throws a one hit gem!
I just tried this with Utely pitching. 80 MPH fastball 87-88 MPH Change. First inning he pitched he went 1,2,3 ending with striking out Vlad. Second inning I did give up two runs (no pitching icon where to throw) but struck out the 3rd out.
All in all, in my brief stint on veteran Utely Threw 2, 2 hits, 2 runs, 2 K's.Mariners Seahawks Sonics UW Sounders

Re: Big Papi David Ortiz throws a one hit gem!
That isn't exactly the most damning evidence of comeback logic. :/ You might be on to something, but its only one CPU goof in a 2-1 game in the 9th inning. I'd like to see a much bigger sample and more glaring results before I'm ready to indict the games AI. I personally haven't noticed anything curious yet, fwiw. The video shown below is from the same game as the one Papi pitched in. The situation is Boston at the plate in the top of the 9th losing 2-1. Man on first and Padroia at the plate. I have Pedroia sac bunt the man over to 2nd. The result screams "C'mon man, I'm trying to let you back in the game here."
As far as position players pitching effectiveness goes, thats definitely disconcerting. Again, I'd like to see this tested on higher difficulty levels before freaking out though. Some SCEA feedback on all this would be nice too. At the very least, thanks for digging into this stuff swaldo.Comment
