Re: Your Beloved Team
I don't have a favorite team, if anything I'd pick the Astros because they are closest to me in Austin. I'll probably be playing as the cubs this year though because I think it'd be cool to see the ivy change through the season, and I'm not good enough at baseball to be able to play as a weaker team.
I don't know enough about the sport or developing players to improve my roster, so I'd be stuck in mediocrityComment

Re: Your Beloved Team
The Philadelphia Phillies are my favorite and home town team.
As a young boy my Father got me into baseball, he used to be the Phillies batboy in the early 1940's. here are a few pics I scaned from his scrapbook.
As you can see my Dad loved baseball almost as more then life itself and in 1980 the Phillies won their first ever World Series Championship on my 5th birthday October 21. My Dad was a season ticket holder and took me to many games at the Vet and really past his love for baseball onto me. Now in 2008, my two kids got to see the Phills win a Championship witch I was thrilled about. R.I.P Dad and say hello to Harry up there."I wanna walk down the street and people say," "There goes Roy Hobbs, the best to ever play the game."Comment

As a huge baseball fan, one of the hardest times of the year for me is opening day and putting in the newest edition of MLB the show. I know, bittersweet. Why is it so hard you ask?
As a kid growing up in a small town in Montana I never had a team to root for. I always played baseball, watched baseball, slept with my glove but never had a team to call my own. Sure, I had a couple players I liked but I never once cheered for a team. I had no hometown team, I had no reason to like anyone!
I am now grown up, working as a sports journalist for ESPN in Bristol, Connecticut. Guess what? I still don't have a team to cheer for! As opening day festivities went on all day, the office was filled with favorite team chants and gear thrown about. I was bombarded with questions about if I even liked baseball!
Well, this brings up my question. What is your favorite team and why? I would love to see the amount of Yanks and BoSox we have on the OS Boards.
And if you guys want some extra credit, give me some reasons to like your team even if it is just for this season.

I have always been a baseball fan and I never had a hometown team until the rays came around. Last year was the best year I have ever had with the rays going to the WS. 10 years of being beat up then they finally make it around the corner.Comment

Re: Your Beloved Team
Grew up in Calgary and the only baseball on TV when I was a kid was the Jays and the odd Expos game. I had family in Ontario and my grandpa was a huge Jays fan. When I was just a young little dude we visited Ontario, and in those 3-4 weeks I learned the game by watching Jays, and to a lesser extent Tigers, games.
Geographically, we were closest to Seattle (as would be the OP) and even had the M's AAA team in town for most of my childhood. I got to see Harold Reynolds, Edgar Martinez, Tino Martinez, Brian Giles, Omar Vizquel, Erik Hanson and many more come through AAA Calgary so the M's were always another team I followed.
I moved to London Ontario in 1993 so I didn't get to see A-Rod rocket his way through the minors in 1994, when he started in A, played AA, then ended the season in Calgary batting .311 with 6HR and 21 RBI in 32 games.Last edited by zukes; 04-14-2009, 08:44 AM.Comment

Re: Your Beloved Team
I'll be a Reds fan until they put me in the ground. I root for laundry.
I love the Yankees too, but it's not the same as my love for the Reds. I was born and bred on the Reds and only adopted the Yankees when I was about 14 because I could actually watch their games all the time. They quit carrying the Reds in my area around that time. I remember getting a free previews of extra innings back in that time and got to watch baseball everyday for a month. I watched the Yanks every day. I was in heaven. That started my love for them. I now watch, at least, 1 full baseball game everyday (every Reds game) and sometimes, up to 5. Last weekend, I probably watched 10 games. I can't get enough baseball.
1. Reds
2. Yankees
I hate the damn Cubs, Cardinals, and Red Sox. I hate the Cubs more than the Red Sox so I guess I am really a bigger Reds fan.Last edited by jpup; 04-15-2009, 08:30 AM.NFL: Tennessee Titans
