Re: Your Beloved Team
Just like the OP, I live in an area without a team (Buffalo, NY). However, I adopt teams based on who I get on my Dish, and teams I just like because of players. Basically, I like the Mets because I get SNY and all their games, and now Buffalo is their AAA affiliate, so that helps. I also like the Indians, since I also get STO, and get all of their games as well. My other favorites are the Cubs, who I get through WGN, and the Rays, who I don't get broadcasts for, but I love how they completely turned their team around and have some great players that make them fun to follow. I guess having so many teams that I like calls my fandom into question, but it's neat to have tons to root for throughout the season, and I almost always have at least one playoff team to follow too. I guess I don't really have a "beloved" team, I just plain like the game of baseball.Comment

Re: Your Beloved Team
I live in southern New Jersey, so our team is the Philadelphia Phillies.
I have been a huge fan for about 20 years or so.
I was a Pirate fan when i was young, for some reason, so when the Phillies won it in 80, I was not thrilled. Times changed as I grew older, and I started to root for the home team eventually. So last year MY team finally won it all, and I couldn't be happierComment

Re: Your Beloved Team
My great-grandfather was an Milwaukee Braves fan. When they left Milwaukee in whatever year that was, he took up the closet team to our town, Kenosha, Wisconsin, and that happened to be the Chicago Cubs. That half of my family has been fans of the Cubs ever since. When the Seattle Pilots moved into Milwaukee, my great-grandpa stayed loyal to the Cubs as he switched to a Cub fan.
Even though my dads half of my family are Brewer fans, I've been a life long Cubs fan. I have a Cubs jacket, that I wore when I was about 6.
I was told this from my grandfatherNFL: Green Bay Packers
NCAA: Wisconsin Badgers
NBA: Milwaukee Bucks
MLB: Chicago CubsComment

White Sox. My dad grew up way south, like on 95th and western for you folks in Chicago. I live far north, but he taught me to be a Sox fan, and he's not even close to the baseball fan I am. I had a Minnie Minoso jersey I wore when I was just a few months old.Comment

Re: Your Beloved Team
This is an interesting thread. I was born in LA, but moved every 3 years growing, up, so I've spent significant time in NoCal, SoCal, OR, IL, KY, DC, and TN. Makes it hard to feel the kind of rootedness that often goes with lifelong fandom, but for me it's about fond memories as a kid.
I remember living in NoCal in the mid- to late '80s and watching the Montana-era Niners destroy folks with the newfangled WCO. Lott was my favorite guy because of those sloberknocker hits.
I also remember the A's of the LaRussa era, and Rickey was my favorite player because he was such a badass. Speed to burn, more leadoff homers than anyone in history at the time, and plenty of swagger. And Dave Steward looked like he might just kill you.
That's the kind of thing that I go back to. I'll always pull for the local teams where I'm living, but nothing can replace those childhood attachments.Comment
