Bottom line, Pedroia's numbers were nothing to marvel about and a bit underwhelming for an MVP in a long time.

People just got excited because of the reasons I listed above...he plays for Boston and because he's a scrappy little guy.

In a long time? Hmm... so Jimmy Rollins' numbers blew you away in 2007?

"blowing away" is an overstatement, but at least he had a better year

scored 139 runs, 30 hr, 90 rbi, swiped 40+ bases, hit 20 triples

I'm not saying Pedroia isn't a good player, and obviously you being a Sox fan will justify any awards they win....but your own Youkilis had a better year than him, so did Jason Bay. Even Ortiz in a down year put up better/equal numbers.

If Pedroia was on the Royals nobody would be drooling over him. I think the fact that he was a "scrappy" Boston player played a large part.

No honestly, I was surprised he won the MVP. I just felt your comment about Kinsler being better across the board was a bit of an exaggeration

So I guess no one has ever seen a non-slugger guy in contention for an MVP in this game...?

I won it with B. Abreu last year and he isn't a slugger per se, but had a lot of RBIs.

I'll give you Youk, but you are 100% wrong on Bay and Ortiz. First, Bay's numbers were split. Second, Ortiz had a few more HR's and RBI. Pretty much everything else was behind Pedroia. Plus, he doesn't play in the field at all. We all saw how well that went those couple years he DID have a strong MVP case.

As for your primary point, I think you might be partially right, at least. Pedroia does get more attention because he plays "bigger" than he is. Plus, being on Boston does help, no argument there. That said, it's not playing on Boston alone that does it. It's playing on a WS contending Boston team that matters.

Also remember, Pedroia was the primary catalyst for getting their offense going last year. Add that to good production numbers and excellent fielding, and it's easy to understand why he may have taken votes from Youk in that regard.

Pedroia's .345 avg and .970 OPS after the all-star break was huge for the Sox lineup with no Manny and a slumping Ortiz. He definitly provided the most VALUE to his team I believe considering what he did and when they needed it (not a bad clean up hitter as well!) lol. Without him Sox wouldn't have been where they were. My opinion anyways

Team record has nothing to do with MVP unfortunately, look at AROD when he won it in Texas and they finished dead last.
