It is a video game and most video games have bugs. That is how I would explain it. Try to make a program run and see how that works. I remember that from highschool And what is "explane?"

You mean "all this back and forth"?

Just giving you a hard time.

And just to play devil's advocate, Quality Assurance gets paid to make sure the game is as bug-free as possible. You didn't get paid to make a program in high school.

lol, I thought it was forth, but forward actually fits better if you think about it "back and forward."

It is cool, but you just have to realizes; it is a video game. Video games are full of bugs. The biggest thing is? Are the bugs game killers. That is what makers look at when testing.

It was, and it was an excellent point. Something I couldn't properly put into words myself.

Up until April of last year, I hadn't owned a console since SNES. So I have always been a PC gamer. Once EA stopped making baseball sims for the PC, I had no choice but to buy a console. And chose a PS3 mainly because of this game, and the fight night series. So I am well aware of the pitfalls of patching, and the current zero-day patch trend we see now. Essentially unfinshed games making it to shelves, mainly because of unrelaistic publisher time frames for development.

However I never thought I would see this in console gaming. Unfortunatley, many of the games I have bought in the last year, although almost completley proprietary when it comes to the systems they run on, are unfinished, or bug filled beyond what should be tolerated. Granted, many have been ported over to the PS3 via the 360, but for a PS3 exclusive, there are no excuses.

If people are happy with good enough, then so be it. Its something completely alien to me. It didnt work in the Marine Corps, and it never jived anywhere else in my life. And yes, its just a game, but I happen to believe I have one life, and when I spend my coin on something, and put my time into something, I tend to take that seriously, given that I am allocating the finite time I spend on this planet doing so.

Not surprised that my post got zero feedback from Russell, no shock there as its been the norm.

It is virtually impossible to test every possible scenario. When the game is released you have several hundred thousand people playing the game being exposed to different scenarios in the game and this is when you start to see the glitches pop up. Look at MS Windows, that program has been around for years and it still has glitches. If you are looking for flawless software you are setting yourself up for disappointment because it does not exist.

So with the some of the glitches that are in the game now, you would be okay if they came out and said we are not releasing 09 because we cannot totally fix them? At some point the game has to be released and in its current state it is very playable.

I was able to simulate through an entire season post patch. Should I assume that means my franchise is fine and I can continue?

i find it comical that some of you are actually trying to convince people that this horrible patch is no big deal because all games have bugs and scea q&a are human and cant find all faults.

yea the game is playable because i put it on and it works...but it does not work the way it is intended.....but is ok i guess because all games have bugs and scea is just human

what was i thinking expecting to get what i paid for

funny thing is that these issues were not there last year...i guess they were not human last year

I've played 15 games since downloading the patch. Post patch I've hit one homerun, my team ERA is up over 1.5 runs, I'm giving up two or three homeruns a game, four homeruns twice, and I'm hitting into a lot more double plays. I hadn't touched my sliders until recently when I move pitch speed to -3. Pre patch I had pitch speed at +4. The game quite simply plays differently.

The thing is I still have the "flashback" and the post game highlights.

I understand placebo effect but this is nuts.

My question, for people who know this stuff. Is it possible a patch can have different effects on the same game?

I agree. Apparently some people are quite touchy about this patch.

It was actually suggested to me in a post in another thread that anyone who doesn't want to install patch 1.06 is "stupid" and having "silly spells of anxiety over nothing" and that "if you are smart and read the forum enough (knowing to delete any previous franchise saves after installing the patch) you are fine."

My response was that calling people stupid because they don't want to install a patch that essentially breaks existing functionality is a bit of a stretch. I actually planned on installing the patch right up until doc indicated that he blew everything away and started a new franchise only to discover that in-game and post-game replays weren't always working.

I don't play online and I don't play RTTS so there isn't a helluva lot in the patch that appeals to me and there are a few "bugs" that I'm not too keen on introducing on to my system.

I realize that the mini-patch is supposed to address the replay issues, but forgive me if I'm a bit skeptical.

I don't see how. It's the same file delivered from the same source to the same code. I would think it really is just a placebo or, more accurately, a coincidence.

The reason being is, depending on who you listen to, there have been reports of the following:

                              -Easier to hit.

                              -It's harder to hit.

-Harder to steal. (this is the only one that I haven't seen a converse report on if that matters at all)

                              -Harder to pitch.

                              -Easier to pitch.

                              -Less CPU comeback.

                              -More CPU Comeback.

                              -CPU comeback no longer switched.

There might have been more, but those are the ones I remember...lol. Not saying you aren't seeing what you're seeing, of course. Just saying that it's likely a phase/spell you're going through (it happens).

too much to read so someone please answer.

okay i installed the new patch when it dropped. had no problems at all then last night tried to load my original franchise from like the first days i had the game and it took me back to the PS screen. so i deleted the utility and re booted the PS3 then it took a long time to load i guess it was re creating the utility file. then i started it and it worked okay. so my question is forgetting that old franchise cuz i started one like 3-4 days before the patch and that one still worked with the patch.. is my RTTS screwed? cuz i'm in aug of 2012 and i just wanna know now before the file gets corrupted.

i haven't re downloaded the patch yet either should i someone please seriously respond.
