Does Auto Baserunning mean that my players will steal on their own?

I never like to steal for myself because I hate giving up an out that way but if they would do it automatically, I wouldn't mind it as much. Does anyone know if this is the case with Auto Baserunning?

It is but they arent as aggressive as I would like. When using auto baserunning you can actually still tell them to steal by pressing L2, L1 and R1 are for your lead so even if you find that they dont steal enough you can control it while still having the CPU control the baserunning otherwise.

I use auto baserunning and the runners will still on their own. You can also steal the base yourself.

Yes...they will...but with AUTO on...you can still do a couple of things.
        1. You can increase/decrease your players leads
        2. You can still call for steals by using the L2 button
        3. You can keep guys from stealing(if you know they want to go...when they start "creeping") by decreasing the lead and holding it.
I've found they wont' go in that case.

        Hope this helps.

Thanks for the quick answers, maybe now I won't be quite as station-to-station as I tend to be.

Haven't yet played post-patch, but pre-patch I could press L2 and sometimes the runner would go, sometimes not. Pressing L1 always produced a lead. What really annoys me is that my fastest runners get caught way too often (unlike last year). I play as the reds and after 45 season games Taveras has 7 steals and been caught stealing 10 times - ludicrous. The CPU runners rarely get caught. I hope the patch changes this, but doubt whether it will. Definitely something for SCEA to address next year though.

Even the greatest base stealers can be thrown out if they choose to run on the wrong pitch/catcher. Slow base runners can steal bags if they choose the right pitch to run on. You can't assume that because your player is one of the best, that he can automatically steal every chance he gets. You have to play it as if you were going to steal the bag in real life. What I do is scout the catchers every series to see who I will be facing. If their arm strength and/or accuracy are low then I know I can swipe some easy bags. The next step is to gage the types of pitches the pitcher is throwing and try to run on a non fast ball count. You can help this with guess pitch function by guessing say curve and low. If you guess right, take off running. The curve is slow to the plate and has a chance of hitting the dirt; instant steal for almost anyone. I believe there is an option in the game settings that you can turn off that says something about cumulative steal factor. I take this to mean that if you steal a lot of bags, the AI will be more likely to pitch out or try to pick you off. I guess the point I am making is that I am glad the game doesn't let you steal at will like other baseball games do. I like that you have to use the strategy and a little bit of luck to steal bases.
