It's not ridiculous in any way. I am simply talking about his skill set. Does the fact that Josh Gibson never played in the Major Leagues take away the fact that he was the greatest home run hitter of all-time? My point is that some people will say yes and some people will say no.

Re: Best player to build a team around
Once again, since you brought it up, you can not say that I'm way off because the stats indicate that he is the greatest home run hitter of ll-time. Besides the stats, I have heard the majority of people from that era, who watched him play, say that Josh Gibson was the greatest power hitter to ever play the game. You're reaction indicated that you think this is absurd and that it's something that I came up with on my own. I'm basing this example off of the fact that, when it comes to this specific type of debate, this is one of the most debated things in the history of baseball.
Another example is Steven Strasburg. If he never throws a pitch in the majors, does that mean that he did not have one of the greatest fastballs in the history of baseball. (Note: I said "baseball" and not "Major League Baseball".)Last edited by Jason_19; 05-10-2009, 07:45 PM.Comment

Again, completely regardless of the rest of the point of this thread. I think Longoria would be a great choice.Last edited by MikeIsGood; 05-10-2009, 08:41 PM.Comment

Re: Best player to build a team around
Put me on the Evan Longoria "love train". Dude is just a stud, I get to see him on a regular basis seeing as I live in Florida, He's just an amazing young player, You don't see many players like him that just come up with that kind of swagger and veteran like presence.
He has such a feel for the game, and is just a wizard at third base. His rbi total right now is just ridiculous!! So in short I'd build my team around this young phenom.Comment

Re: Best player to build a team around
Cabrera is a great player. So is Longoria. But being a Marlins fan, I have seen many games were Cabrera was switched around the diamond and outfield to hide his glove. 2 way players get my thumbs up. Longoria wins this one for me. But i still like Hanley betterComment

Re: Best player to build a team around
Yeah! I think it would be a great idea to build a franchise around a player that has not thrown a single major league pitch. How about waiting until he actually plays before people already induct him into the hall of fameComment

Re: Best player to build a team around
I would like to, but I'm not because he has horrible arm action. He learned how to pitch from Tom House and what Tom House teaches no longer has any place in baseball at any level.
Now, Strasburg could be a physical freak (I pray that he is), but most people with that type of arm action blow out their elbows or shoulders, and sometimes a combination of both, in high school or college. He could strike out all 27 batters and I wouldn't enjoy it because his arm action is disgusting. It causes me to think about injuries, instead of what I'm actually watching.Last edited by Jason_19; 05-11-2009, 09:39 PM.Comment

Re: Best player to build a team around
My Orioles team is built around Adam Jones, Nick Markakis, Matt Weiters, Brian Matuz, Jeremy Guthrie, and Montanez. It's a slow precess 10-22 right now, and Matuz and Weiters aren't even in the majors yet, but they are coming. This is the most fun that I've had with a non-football game in a while.Moderator
