Okay, new player models.....but I'm gonna stick with my "don't overreach SCEA, fix somethings first" mantra. I hope they ingnore the tons of new things people wanted added and do some basic fixin' and, if they can get in new models, that's a plus.

Well, it doesn't suck balls for me, but I'm finding I'm really enjoying something fresh, i.e., the sounds of the game, stadium, crowd noises, walkup music, etc. which SCEA did an EXCELLENT job on this year.

I swing at the first pitch:
"Why are you swinging at the first pitch helping that fellow out?"

I DON'T swing at the first pitch:
"Against a guy like this? You get that first pitch fastball? You'd better be hacking!"

        Make up your mind, Rex!

I was gonna post the same thing, I hate that! Or along the same lines the "Be more aggressive sheesh" after taking the first pitch..

Who knows. Matt was the play-by-play guy for the San Diego Padres during his time working with The Show, and I have a feeling that a day after day, 162 game play by play job would be more taxing than a studio host for the MLB Network. So who knows. We'll see.

              Re: The bad commentary thread

I think their best year of commentary was the year before they brought Hudler on board. When it was just Matt and Soup it was fantastic... Hudler doesn't add anything except really stupid comments.

Also, they've really gone bare-bones with a lot of it. They used to detail the whole lineup rather than just pointing out one player... I loved that! I know it took a long time but they should've made it possible to skip through that without skipping straight to the first batter. It was awesome hearing how many times a guy was an all-star, or hearing so and so in his usual 3 spot... the only time that got annoying was when Matt would be shocked a dead tired player was in the lineup (when he was only in because fatigue in this game is unrealistic).

They also used to introduce the pitcher and actually talk about him, rather than just giving a one sentence introduction.

Again, these were really repetitive sometimes but the solution wasn't to take them out, the solution was to make more generic ones based on franchise performance - i.e., for a pitcher say his name and instead of a generic "the key for him will be to keep the ball low" say "leading his team in wins so far, has really established himself as the staff ace this year...", or tell us where his ERA ranks in the league, stuff like that. For batters in the lineup, talk about streaks - "in the number 2 spot, riding a 5 game hitting streak" or performances "looking for his 30th home run of the year tonight."

The fact they took these out, and reduced the presentation - we used to see a player's stats to date every time they came up to the plate (even subsequent ones that would say 0 for 1 would have the season stats in small print at the bottom), now we only get that for the first at-bat. Plus, they should take a page out of ESPN's playbook and show more than average and counting stats - show me OBP, SLG, OPS, stuff like that. Why their scoreboards show SLG but not OBP or OPS is beyond me.

Anyway, you can probably tell I loved this game's presentation in years past and hate that it took such a huge step back... and no, the fact that the scoreboard says "great hit!" occassionally does not count as a huge addition to me.

Then there is the one at the end of the game..."with that win...they are back to .500". My team is 25-17!

                I still love it...

I think the best commentary of any sports game goes to the NHL series. Thorne and Clement are seamless....like a real Hockey broadcast.

                  Re: The bad commentary thread

We need an option to just turn Rex Hudler off and it would be a BIG improvement. I agree that the commentary needs an overhaul for next year, even Matt is sounding a bit stale at this point. I also find myself turning off the commentary entirely this year more than I ever used to. I still think that the way the commentary in The Show adapts to what's happening on the field in addition to certain things that happened earlier in the game (sometimes even things that happened in the game prior) is second to none though.

After playing 2k9, the announcing is the only thing that game does better. Keep Matt, Dave and Rex need to be brought out to the shed

Really? I haven't seen much of that game, but from the videos I've watched, Jon and Joe seemed very robotic to me.

Well hells bells. Maybe I haven't watched 2K9 videos. I thought I did. I must be getting it confused with 2K8. Either way, whatever game Jon and Joe were in, I didn't think they sounded very good. I'll have to watch a few 2K9 vids I guess.

"And Dave as your so fond of saying yackkkkkk"!!! I shudder when Rex Hudler says this, even if I do look like a complete idiot swinging.

They have Gary Thorne & Steve Philips in 2k9. Jon & Joe were awful.

That's what I remember. I guess that's why I've always labelled 2K as having lackluster commentary. It's nice to hear they've improved it.
