    CPU Trades in Franchise

I am in the middle of June in my 'chise with the Oakland A's. I thought I would start this thread to see what trades cpu has made in other player's franchises. Here are the trades that have happened so far:

Brewers trade C Jason Kendall to the Rays for RP Dewayne Gatlin
Brewers trade RP Dewayne Gatlin to the Mets for RF Ryan Church
Angels trade RP Scot Shields (thank god, I hate facing him) for 1B Jorge Cantu
Brewers trade 3B Bill Hall and RP Dorsey Hope to the Orioles for 2B Brian Roberts and RP Jim Johnson

That kind of 3 way with the Brewers/Rays/Mets is cool

I remember I started a thread like this a few weeks back. I absolutley dislike the trade logic of the CPU. Here is what I remember seeing:
      • Mark Ellis and a AA Catcher for SP Cole Hamels
      • Scott Shields, Brian Fuentes, and a AA player for Tim Lincecum.
I don't understand why so many big names are on the trading block. I hope they put restrictions next year (besides roster control). For example, the CPU not trading an A potential guy (25 or younger) or any player who is top 5-10 on their 25 man roster. Just an opinion of course
      Angels= 2025 World Series Champions!!

I would love for them to up the trade frequency, and add an option like this next year.

That is a great idea. To the cpu, the names mean nothing. Every player is just some conglomeration of algorithms. It would be cool if they could tag certain players as more difficult to trade. Make the top 5 guys much harder to trade or put like a franchise player tag on one guy per team that is really difficult to trade. Not impossible of course, hence the Swisher trade from Oakland even after Beane said anyone not named Swisher might be traded lol. That being said, I can't seem to trade for Carlos Pena still, even though he is slumping big time for the Rays.

I'm in my first season in my franchise and I just got my first trade offered to me by the Twins. They wanted Carlos Guillen and in return they would give me R.A. Dickey ... ...I declined.

I simmed a season yesterday after doing a fantasy draft and I saw two instances where teams made a trade and on the same day they traded the players back to each other. I don't remember the players involved, but both times it was "Orioles acquire Player X from Mariners for Player Y" immediately followed by "Orioles acquires Player Y from Mariners for Player X."

Those aren't the correct teams, but you get the idea. I saw this twice in the span of about a week, I think in late June.

In one of my RTTS's I asked to be traded because I was in an organization with too much competition at my position. They obliged and I was shipped, I played one game with my new squad and was then traded back to be a bench player again on my same team. What's up with that?

You should have taken the trade. R.A. Dickey pitched a two hit shutout against me the other day. I could not hit that friggin knuckle

I guess in this situation you can pretend that the two teams made the trade but someone didn't pass a physical, or else it was not approved by the commissioner's office for some reason.

Yeah, it didn't bother me at all. But I figured I'd point it out because I know some people have been upset about the trade logic. Wanted to get it out there before someone else started a thread complaining about it.

LOL nice. I did notice something odd in the trade dialogue screen. I can't remember off hand who made the trade, but they posted both teams' trades under the same trade. For example, under the Rays headline it said Rays acquire RF ? from Jays for RP ? then it says Jays acquire RP ? from Rays for RF ? instead of having it listed under the Jays headline

Nothing big at all, just some kind of misplacement of the notice is all.

                          Re: CPU Trades in Franchise

i don't think those types of restrictions suggested would make sense at all. teams in playoff races do trade off top prospects for veteran pick ups in real life, and the top player on a bad team will get traded in season in real life as well. the logic is a bit rough around the edges, but nothing can 100% mimic real life because their are far too many factors that go into high profile trades in real life for a computer program to consider. i think it ADDS realism to the game when teams in a playoff push are willing to over pay with young talent for stars from rebuilding teams and visa versa. nothing can be exactly as it is in real life but the restrictions on the CPU trading logic would remove more realism than it would add

I think you have a valid point here. I am not sure if it happens that teams are more willing to trade off top talent when they are at the bottom of division or if the trade is still random. Either way, one thing we have learned from baseball is that any trade is possible in real life. And for those that say it is unreal because so and so is on the trading block, everyone in the last year of their contract is on the trading block in real life. It doesn't mean that they will be traded, it just means that they are considering offers just in case.

Hmmm, I wonder if this is actually what I saw, but read it too fast. That would be less worrisome than two teams trading players back and forth on the same day.
