I was alive then-- at the dawn of baseball gaming-- and imo we have basically just dressed up the same old junk. Then again, that's not unique to baseball gaming.

Top 10 baseball franchises of all time (with era they were released in mind):

      1. OOTP
      2. Earl Weaver
      3. Baseball Stars
      4. MVP
      5. High Heat
      6. Hardball
      7. All-Star Baseball
      8. MLB The Show
      9. Tony Larussa
      10. Bases Loaded

Nice! I remember sitting up nights when I got Strat-O-Matic for Christmas. I got the Metallica self-titled album and listened to it over and over while rolling the dice for hours. A few years later, I bought the computer version, but it wasn't the same. I think I still have the game cards from the board game somewhere.

I watch a lot of Mets games on TV and Keith Hernandez talks about playing Strat-O-Matic. That's how you know it was a great game.

Back in my day there was this or games you made up using dice and baseball cards...

I get frustrated with console games that "go backwards" by removing or messing up something that they already proved they could do, but other than that I'm pretty easily impressed...

I'm still on PS2, but have great sliders and decent rosters, so I'm all good...no more "restarts" of chises due to issues with either one of those things anymore...

I got my first console in 2002, never played any games previous to that and was addicted instantly...

I used to write down box scores, season stats, playoff previews etc. Unfortunately when we moved I had to throw the spirals due to space issues. I thought I was the only oe who did that, I feel alot better.

I have a full 162 game season of stats from Tony LaRussa's Baseball on the Sega. I also probably logged 1,000+ games played between HH2002/2003. The High Heat series was phenomenal and The Show is starting to draw me in like High Heat did. I spent way too much time tinkering with rosters and custom sounds in The Show now to actually sit down and knock out a few series a week! It's amazing how in-depth these games are nowadays.

Anyone who puts Earl Weaver, Baseball Stars, All Star Baseball and High Heat baseball in front of The Show can't be taken seriously. I can see someone still in love with MVP, but those other games better than The Show?? Yea, right! That's just saying something to get a reaction....and I bit!!

Naa. For their time. Did you play those games?

Earl was so ahead of its time.
Baseball Stars was basically the first franchise attempt ever.
All-Star did what MLB is doing 4-5 years ago with the franchise.
High Heat was about as real as it gets.

I don't want a reaction. I am stating my opinion, which is that we have not come as far as we pretend to have come.

I remember the first "talking"baseball game for Genesis. I think it was called Sportstalk Baseball? I flipped for it. As I recall it not only was the 1st to feature an announcer, but was also the first attempt at making the real players look like themselves. It blew me away at first. Got old fast. Gameplay was weak, graphics so-so and it made the announcing crew from the Show sound like Rizzuto, Carey, Buck and Scully all wrapped into one. lol. I loved Baseball Stars. For the time it had great depth and a nice clean layout that made the stats pop. World Series for Sega rocked. Always thought that game was underappreciated at the time. I liked Bases loaded for the "exotic" teams. Hawaii, Jersey City, WTF???
But I still remember feasting my eyes on that brand spankin new NES Great Baseball. I had to have it. We were really desperate! lol. Games have come a long way, The Show should be proud of where it stands today. All that painful progress has brought us that much closer to perfection. If someone says ANY other game was/is better then they are stuck in the past. Peter Pan syndrome. I (and many others) laid out $400+ to get a PS3 just for 1 title. Nuff said.

Nope me and my friends used to do that for baseball starts I still have stats Vs. LHP, VS. RHP for that game somewhere.....LOL....I still have season from HIgh Heat although you could just print those out. That was one reason I loved High Heat so much, plus they had A-ball too...
