This happens the majority of the time. What i started to do is not even throw home... rather stop the other runners if on base from getting to 2nd or 3rd.

I made throws to home from all three outfield positions that were online.

I watch a lot of baseball (at least one game a day) and rarely are throws from the outfield online with the catcher. And those that are, the catcher usually has trouble fielding it properly and making the tag. You hear so often these days, you've got to hit the cut off man. This is so very true. The AI throws poorly I have seen as well. If they are online, they still miss a lot of tags. I usually push the runner from third and take my chances on the throw/tag and it works pretty well so far. The other day though, I sent Pujols and he should have made it except that the throw was so far offline towards third that the catcher was able to make the catch and tag Pujols on the back before he even got close enough to the plate to slide.

I feel the exact same way. Verbatim.

And just to elaborate I have 3 outfield assits with the melkman and 2 were at home. This is in a 6 game sample BTW. Don't get me wrong they miss too but I don't feel it's glitchy.

I make accurate throws to home all the time. Alot of them are just late though. But I get my fair share on gundowns going to 3rd or trying to stretch a single into a double.

I do get quite a few off line throws though too, but I am certain that my outfield assists are about where they should be.

My throws to home are accurate at a fairly realistic rate. Throws from the outfield are often offline in real life.

I would agree there is a problem, i have never once seen a throw to the third base side of home....I tested it and no matter what you do more then likely the throw will be off line.

Ya it is impossible to have any off-line throw home from the outfield go up the 3B line

I can't believe when they were programing outfielder throws and improving tag animations that they totally missed the obvious fact that off-line throws home always go up the 1B line but NEVER up the 3B line where you actually might stand a chance of having your catcher tag a runner out coming down the base path.......Someone really dropped the ball on this one

In real baseball outfielders throws home go up the 3B line all the time making for some great tags by the catcher

I hope this is addressed for MLB 10

BTW... it was me that discovered that switching off your outfielder at the last second to the next closest outfielder on your screen will automatically position the player you switched off of into an automatic charge & throw animation which makes for some great accurate throws

This is incorrect, as I have seen many throws to the third base side, both with my fielders and the CPU's. I posted earlier in fact that I had Pujols get tagged out by the throw that went to third base side. I like your idea though of switching fielders, as I have problems lining up for the throw. It seems that when I try to get in position to make the running catch and throw, the fielding tractor beam catches me at the wrong angle. For example, I line up the center fielder to throw to second and I end up facing towards the left fielder while running and then make an awkward throw over his left shoulder. I don't know if this affects the actual throw or not, but it does look strange.

I like the way throws from the outfield work. It punishes you if you try to throw a guy out with a weak-armed guy instead of hitting the cut off guy. Also, you actually have to have momentum going towards home if you want an accurate, on-line throw. Very nice IMO.

Where it gets annoying for me is when a guy tries to advance to second and the catcher just sits there in his stupid, unnecessary, prolonged animation when the guy is taking second right in front of his face! Argh!
