Are you talking for Manage only mode? If so would it be possible to tell your runner to go back after he starts his mad dash to third by hitting the R1 button, (think that's the one).

He may be able to, but those that use auto baserunning and the cpu itself, are prone to this happening. There's really no way around it, imo, without significantly hampering other aspects of the game.

Now, there are times where I've seen the cpu hold at 2nd on a base hit to RF, but its unfortunately rare.

I agree with Knight in that I believe its triggered due to the outfield playing a little too deep in "normal" setup. Haven't tried to call my OF to SHALLOW, to see if it resolves the issue, but will and report back.

Somehow the cpu needs to know to only run to third on a hit to right or center that is a slower groundball type of hit. It's the hard hit balls that get to the outfielder in a hurry that causes some of the problems.

I'm seeing it to think I'm going to start a thread for gameplay tweaking if we do another patch.

Thanks Russell, here's hoping. For me I am still in pre-season mode until the opening day rosters come out, but I would love to see it change in time.

Would lowering base-runner speed do the trick? I'd try it but I dont have a PS3 right now. Of course, you'd probably have to tinker with fielder throwing strength to get a nice balance.

no...if anything needs to be adjusted, it would be the baserunning aggressiveness slider.

Yeah, if only there was one.

I think lowering base-runner speed and CPU throwing power to 4 (-1) would do the trick. The only problem is that you'll see the amount of infield hits decrease but probably not enough to make a difference.

I'll test it when I get my PS3 back (tomorrow hopefully).

I think if they just tone done the batted ball speed and the add a bit more friction to the ball/surface interface, I think we would see a better balance with baserunner speed. I think the ball reaches the OF way too fast and is causing many problems

Way too many laserballs in this game. And I still seem them way too much with all hitting sliders zeroed out on Legend

I tried maxing the baserunner speed slider, and it seems to help a little bit.

Not causing many problems? I have thrown out baserunners at 1B from RF 3x now. That isnt a problem? And its evident online also.

Next time you hit a frozen rope to the OF or a screaming groundball into the OF, take a look at the hitter running to 1B. More often than not, he will never make a turn to 2B, and run through the bag.

Thats why you need to increase baserunning speed, because balls reach the OF way too quick.

There is definitely a problem with over aggressive running from 1st to 3rd. I play with auto-running (and no I don't want to switch to manual), but if they just some how put in a control option that would over ride the auto-running, that would be great. At least press a button and your lead runner would go back or stop.

bringing in the OF to shallow does help tone down the number of runners that attempt to go from 1st to 3rd on a basehit to right. And surprisingly, having the outfield at shallow depth, really doesn't hamper you when tracking down fly balls in the outfield.

I'm checking on some sliders now...I've had a couple of situations where it could have happened and didn't....but this is going to take some testing.
Right now I'm fooling around with

Fielder run speed up 1
Fielder reaction up 1
Fielder arm strength down 1
baserunner speed down 2
baserunner steal ability up 1

I probably should have tried 1 at a time.
But that's not how I roll.

Knight..during one of your test runs, could you try playing with default sliders and then when a runner reaches first, move the OF to shallow to see if you get the same results I did, in that, the cpu is more "logical" in his approach of sending a runner from 1st to 3rd on a ball hit to the outfield? (most notably RF)

I know it happens but it really hasn't happened to me that much. I control my baserunners so I know when to try to go to 3rd or not. The CPU tries but not often enough to mess the game up.

If you are actually throwing to first to get a guy out than you are just being as much as a problem as the game.

I don't think that he is doing that to exploit the game or try to get outs not deserved.

I too have tried it out of curiosity because I agree with him on the speed of some hits reaching the outfield. He more likely tried it a few times and discovered like I did that it is probably a closer play at first on a regular basis then it should be.

I'm not complaining about the game, of the few minor complaints with the game I have, this is one of the things that WE can find a solution for for those who are seeing it.

While it may seem counterproductive at times to try exploits and point these things out, it can also lead us to solutions.
