I've seen a few a times where they probabaly shouldn't have gone on manual base running but I really notice that they tend to hold up if I load up the throwing meter.

My problems arent with the CPU doing it for themselves, as chefdad mentioned, if I load up on my throws they seem to control themselves much better. My problem is with my own guys and I think a lot of it has to do with the speed at which the ball leaves the bat. It seems like if I dont murder a ball then they automatically assume they have time to advance but in those cases when the CPU isnt playing as deep in the OF, Im completely toast. Now if I smash a ball, OF playing the same depth as I just mentioned, they never seem to ever try and advance when they shouldnt be.

First to third issue has killed auto baserunning for me (HUM player). Forced me to manual w/assist because i don't feel like pausing and switching to manual mid-play. Be amazing if SCEA can patch this issue.

For what it's worth I have my global slider set to this

            FIELD RUN SPEED -5
            FIELDER REACTION -2
            FIELDER ARM STRENGTH -2
            BASERUNNER SPEED -2

Might be a placebo, don't know, but I'm not having a problem with 1st to 3rd. This hasn't reduced my ability to steal as I usually only steal with the guys who are supposed to.

Im at the point where Im forced to use manual baserunning until Ive got a runner on 2nd and then I can move it back to auto but I really dont want to have to do this over and over during the course of a game. In my last game I had Furcal thrown out at 3rd on a routine single to right and the play wasnt even close. Later in the game I had Martin thrown out at 3rd on a very similar play to what happened with Furcal earlier. The icing on the cake was on a popup just on the outfield grass and Ethier went half way like they normally do on a fly ball, only this was just on the outfield grass and of course he was doubled off at first thanks to his stupidity. I went on to win the game 2-1 thanks to a 2-run single in the bottom of the 9th but the CPU ran me out of atleast 3 innings when I had something going as evidenced by the fact that I had 12 hits but only 2 runs. Apparently most people use manual baserunning as this topic has drifted back in this thread but Im hoping someone out there has found some sort of work around for this.
I don't know if this was mentioned or not. Here is what I do, and some of you may not like it thinking it's cheating and that's fine, but it's my franchise for me to play as I wish and a solution that I use and some of you might find it helpful. I toggled many times between manual and auto baserunning and was having grief both ways costing me too many runs unrealistically. I settled with the following solution:

I set baserunning to auto. If a situation comes up where a hard line drive or shallow fly is hit to center or right that NO baserunner would attempt to take 3rd and he rounds 2nd or starts to take off, I pause in game, go to settings, switch baserunning to assist, save and re-enter game, retreat runner manually, pause and switch back to auto, game on.

It takes very little time and I don't feel it takes away from the integrity of the game. Seems to be easier than trying to find a slider adjustment or changing ratings for all players and saves me much grief.

Thats exactly what Ive been doing now as its the best solution I can come up without messing with sliders, which I refuse to do by the way.

                  The Chef,

Not using the sliders makes no sense. The game, out of the box, plays differently for each gamer, based on their talent. That's why they have levels from ROOKIE to LEGEND. The sliders are additional. I've heard guys say that they think it's cheating to do so, but you've got to make adjustments to meet your style of play. Just a thought.

                    Just some food for though:

If the developers made the same change, it would be globally, just like you would do via sliders.

So you're essentially doing the same thing.

Might be a placebo, don't know, but I'm not having a problem with 1st to 3rd. This hasn't reduced my ability to steal as I usually only steal with the guys who are supposed to.
JIM you use this with auto baserunning? Might have to give these try. This has killed the game for me along with getting picked off from 1st all the time using auto baserunning!

At first I was using it just for the CPU, but I've played a few games on AUTO with me and I'm not seeing a problem. I've had some of the speed merchants go, but not always. There's a lot of things that the AI takes into consideration, I believe, but the above has helped me. You know in AUTO base running you can shorten the lead, right? I NEVER take an extra step, never. As soon as the pitcher lets me know he's going to the plate, i will tap L1 and L2 almost immediately after that, if I want to steal, and don't see a problem, but I never run with guys who aren't base thieves, but this can be used for hit and runs.

so i have to use manuel base running and after a cuple of game i got it ! but in some situations whe 2 or three players are on bases i am really nervous on the plate. i am not thinking of balls and strikes at this moment. i plan the next step in baserunning which bumber to use and which button to press, so my hittingbecome really bad in this situations. also wild pitches resulst almost in nothing for me baecause i can´t react that fast like cpu does.

so i think i turn back to auto base running (maybe over aggressive running is fixed by the game itselfs
