Unwritten rules are always with interpretation. My first year I was told that if you are hitting a guy to protect your own hitters that you do it with a 80% effort, or BP fastball at the butt. But if someone does something "dirty" then its a full effort FB in the ribs. Of course never at the head. I wonder what would be different 50 years ago.

I'm sure fifty years ago it was similar rules, although there was more aggressive pitching inside then.Unwritten rules are always with interpretation. (And I heard those rules as well.)Yes, I've been here since 2003. No, I don't post much. I'm too busy playing the games.Comment

Re: They obviously didn't include the unwritten rules in this game...
Since when is that an unwritten rule?this is something I'd eventually like to see SCEA enfore a little more - the game has certainly changed a whole lot but there are some unwritten rules that deserve to be punished - this is definately one of them and also swinging out of your shoes 3-0, stealing when you are up big and I'd like to see more retaliation for hitting opposing batters intentionally - even if the payback isn't delivered in the same game - maybe the next series or even further down the road (since that's how they police themselves these days). Just finished reading the book - "the Code" , I'd highly recommend it.Comment

Re: They obviously didn't include the unwritten rules in this game...
My RTTS pitcher stepped on the third base line when he was walking off the field one day. Major unwritten rule infraction. He proceeded to get lit up.
SCEA has to do something about that. Where's the hop?

Re: They obviously didn't include the unwritten rules in this game...
unwritten rules in Baseball make sense...
where as in Football they are confusing as hell, but still kind of make sense...
in football if you are blowing another team out and you have the ball at their opponents redzone...and it is 4th down......even if it is 4th and inches.... you have to go for it.... I believe you have to run the ball....but if you get a first down or a TD, then that is that...
but if you choose to kick a FG instead of going for it, then that is considered piling it on....
so again, you have to run the ball on all the downs late in the 4th qtr, even if it is 4th down.....if its under 2:00 minutes then you can kneel down to waste time...but other wise...***n a play.
it is funny when I see some fans on forums get pissed when they see the opposite team do something like this....and don't understand the unwritten rule.Comment

Re: They obviously didn't include the unwritten rules in this game...
Ive watched games where one team has a HUUUUUUGE lead and players are swinging away with a 3-0 count and the announcers are all over it as being an unwritten rule. this is the team that is batting that is already blowing out the opp. that is.
they say that it is unsportsmanlike.. ive never liked that word in my life you play hard all game long in any sport. you dont ever try to stop scoring. it is the other teams objective to stop you from scoring. if they cant do that... oh freaking well... and i dont care what level of play either... pee wee or pros i dont care... you play to win not to have fun and the fun is all in the winning and rubbing it in the the face of the losers..."Baseball is life, without Baseball life itself ceases to exist." - Ken SpragueComment

Re: They obviously didn't include the unwritten rules in this game...
as far as the no bunting during a no no or p.g. after a certain inning i can remember i believe that it was the Diamond backs when Showalter was managing them that it happened against them and he was livid about it after the game. there are long standing traditions or whatever that have been around since the dawn of the game that are still held in very high regaurd by old school mangers and fans etc... i think they are called purists... i like it all just dont take away my dh or my six divisions... well we can of course agment that some.. move the Rangers to the Central and the D backs to the al west and the pirates to the nl east and the world will be a very perfect place..."Baseball is life, without Baseball life itself ceases to exist." - Ken SpragueComment

Re: They obviously didn't include the unwritten rules in this game...
LMAO good point! So a team that's down in the 9th and needs baserunners, can't bunt if the pitcher has a no-hitter going. I've played baseball for 45 years and have never heard of that. And if you're getting your baseball info and so-called unwritten rules from the talking heads at ESPN, I'd suggest you stop before your head explodes.

Re: They obviously didn't include the unwritten rules in this game...
Ive seen the pitcher hop over the line..in the game..thats more of a superstition than an unwritten rule..There are lots of guys that dont pay attention to the lines on the field. IMO most of the "unwritten rules" are kind of a joke now a days and they get broken all time. Stealing signals is considered a big no no in baseball...but every single team does it...and whats the point of having signals if youre not going to try and steal them? Sometimes I think this stuff is just hashed up because they have nothing to talk about in the booth if one teams getting blown outComment

Re: They obviously didn't include the unwritten rules in this game...
A runner on second stealing a sign is okay; a team employee sitting in center field with binoculars and a walkie-talkie is not. You have a point in that these unwritten rules are sometimes blown up to something they're not by talking heads. They actually have a list of unwritten rules in the manual on page 12, but you can't see them cause they're unwritten.
