If you've ever had to ump a real game, you'd know it's no walk in the park. I used to ump games for the Little League in the area, and every parent thinks their kid is the next Nolan Ryan or Hank Arron. There is constant scrutiny, constant bickering, and everybody thinks you're the worst ump ever. You can't sim that feeling; like you're the worst person ever.

It's a fun thing to do, and it's good volunteer work, but it's not all it's cracked up to be.

See, I liked umpiring because I was actually good at it. It was a rare occasion when you heard someone bark at me or talk about me behind my back (and if you've umpired, then you know that you hear everything that's said about you). It's certainly not easy, but at the same time I think I see umpires pre-determine their call before they even watch the play happen. I've seen it in little league and the major leagues. It's amazing how terrible they can be at times, and I'm allowed to say that as an umpire for nine years.

But the difficulty of the job doesn't say anything about why it should be in a video game.

haha, sort of a fun/good idea but i would rather hope they spend their development efforts in other areas

MLB 10 fan mode: paying $10 for parking, finding a parking spot, finding your misplaced ticket(or holding up a sign for tickets), waiting in line at the gate, paying $500 for a hot dog, sitting in a seat behind a pole, waiting 2 and a half hours for getting out of the parking lot.

Don't forget "MLB: Equipment Manager". You have to make sure that you provide towels to the players after the game and that the players have enough to cover themselves while talking to the media. You also have to make sure all their laundry is cleaned and pressed and hung in their lockers when they get done with the game, otherwise you'll get chased around by an angry naked ballplayer.

Okay, I just vomited a bit.

Don't get me wrong, I loved doing it, and I still would if I had the time. Between College and a 25-hour job with duties in a Choir, it's hard to find time. The majority of the time there were people arguing with me were people who though their kid was everything and could outhit the Babe. I'd say 85% of the parents are just there to support their kid, and 10% invest a lot in that kid and get frustrated. It's about 5% of the parents that can't take it. I say this though saying that being an Umpire is a difficult job, even if it is volunteering.

In a video game, it could be fun. There was an online cricket game that let you be a cricket umpire that took some of my time the other day. I'll have to find it again...
