ASB had pre-loaded throws and my moron roommate used to always throw home because he didn't figure it out.

Tough to talk about "features" in this particular forum, in my opinion, since what most folks who hang around here want is to PLAY A GOOD GAME OF BASEBALL.

        If "features" provide that, great.

Often, they are just selling points to milk the masses for $$, but they don't make the game better.

One thing I wish they would borrow from MVP was the color coded pitch release. I loved that feature. If I am batting as Mauer I should have a much better batters eye that lets me know what pitch is being thrown. In MVP there was a huge difference in batting with 300 hitter and 240 hitter.
Every year I hope that add this feature. Maybe next year, that would take the pitcher v batter immersion to the next level.

Fast Forward was in MVP '03, where you could stop a game midway and simulate to a certain inning, jump in in the middle of a game, etc.

The base pointing system was The Shows, but I don't think that it's that intuitive. Pointing your stick to a runner and then pressing a button doesn't gel right with your brain without a lot of practice... The number of times I've sent a guy home or made him run backwards or somethig kills me. I think that the base running in MVP '05 was simple and perfect... you could really do anything in it and it was very responsive. 2K's base running has been horrific the last four years, nothing works right about it. The Shows has been good, but I think it's too complex most of the time.

RTTS was the first well done "superstar" mode. Madden has had super star mode since the last generation of consoles, which came out in August of 2005. BUt, it was poorly implemented and crappy. RTTS is the first modern sports game to have a good career maker in it.

Above all, the most significant development is that their baseball game plays like a real game of baseball. It is difficult, strategic, pitching and batting is serious, you can get walks, not everything is a home run, etc... you can play the game like a real baseball game with real results. MVP '05 was close to this as well, but there were some drawbacks... by and large the game was a pitchers duel, where you'd give up and get very few walks, and if it was player vs. player, every game was usually a 11th inning 2 - 1 or 1 - 0 win... pitching was very, very easy.

The Show has done the important things right and then piled up with very in depth franchise, RTTS, etc., modes. The final frontier for SCEA to capture is online play. There has never been a good online baseball game. MVP '06 was probably the best one, but it was college baseball and that just didn't appeal as much... the game actually played well and didn't suck online. Since then, baseball games have been bad online... and The Show '09 was the best example of a nearly unplayable online baseball game... between lag, delays, glitches, and things that just didn't work (hit and run, etc). I don't think that SCEA can successfully tackle online play this year, because no baseball game has ever done the online component exceptionally... baseball is a game, at base, that is entirely about timing... and the timing in online games just isn't right for any modern baseball games.

MVP had the best "simple" manager mode in a game, and that added years of longevity to MVP 05 for me. The Show has a good manager mode too, but it takes too long to get into a managerial game (I think it has to load, right?) and it's too complex. I wish that it had a "simple" manager mode that you could get to from the franchise screen, not having to jump into a game, etc. And if it was a straight rip of MVP '05, I'd be really happy about that. The manager mode where you call whether you want the guy to defensive swing, hold off, pitch by pitch, swing away, etc., is just too much for me... It's cool that it's in the game and it's a real great sim manager mode, but if they had a "simple" mode I'd love it.

MLB 2K copied MVP '05s but totally ruined the mode. It's been broken for four years... you can't substitute pitchers effectively, haha. You can only sub/make pitching changes when you're pitching, so, say, if you take a lead in the top of the 9th after being down by a lot, you can't warm up your closer until the next inning. It's such a huge freaking flaw in the game. Also, one "out" in that game totally kills a pitcher's warming up stamina. Say that you have your closer warming up with 1 out in the 8th and you're PROBABLY going to bring him in with 2 outs in the 8th, but you want to let your current pitcher get one more batter out... Let's say the current guy gets a miraculous double play, ends the inning, then your closer will continue to warm up throughout the next half inning ad you can't stop him ... so when it comes to the 9th, his stamina is drained to like 20%. It's been this way for four years. THey've never noticed it. Hahahaha, man, 2K Sports baseball is so freaking flaws.

The day SCEA delivers the goods on a really robust online mode, to compliment its already awesome offline play, is when it's as close to a perfect baseball game as you'll ever get. As it is today, it's as close to a perfect offline baseball game as you'll get, which is good enough for me.

I would concur with the comments about the AI Programming. Aside from the glitz and glitter, which certainly shines as brightly as any console game there is, this is the innovation that gets overlooked...

The games will get prettier and prettier as the graphic artists continue to learn to push and prod and harness all the power of the console they are bound by.

That being said, it will always be the game of baseball that makes the game what it is.

Embracing that concept is why this game continues to widen the gap between all the others.

has anyone seen any info posted as to why SCEA did not include analog controls for pitching and throwing this year?

remember for 09 they had teased us by included a grayed out option for RS controls? i thought for sure they would have included this as an additional option for people who wanted this.

i wouldnt want them to scrap button controls, but i hoped they would have added this for people who love the scheme in 2k baseball.

if anyone knows anything or has seen info they can post it would be appreciated

                thanks!

up in coming blog, Eddy Cramm said it best what baseball has had deceptive throws before the show 10? put another feather in the cap of the show innovative drive to realism.
