I have a great great great etc. grandfather who played for the Phillies back in the early 1900s. All I know is my remember my grandfather telling me about him, and showing me an old lineup card when I was a kid.

Re: The real show
I got a hit off of Todd Dunwoody in summer ball. I played at Frontier. We had a set of umpires that did a lot of are games in pony league baseball that had told my parents they had never seen a kid with that nasty of a curveball at my age or the control I had of all my pitches and said they felt I had a bright future as a pitcher. Things happened on are farm financially that cause me not to play my junior and senior year of baseball. I did strikeout Todd Dunwoody who played for the Marlins actually I dont really remember him getting a hit off of me. I had pitched a perfect game as well as a few 2 and 3 hitters.Comment

Re: The real show
What's up guys, I haven't posted here in a while..usually lurk and read everyone's impressions. Every year at this time I show up for "MLB: The Show" news. As far as "the real show", I was drafted by Milwaukee and played professionally in the Brewers organization for 7 years...topped out in AAA. Never made it to The Show but played in a few big league spring training games. Got a chance to play against A-Rod, Bonds and Tony Gwynn to name a few. A few of my old teammates are still around...Mark Loretta and Ronnie Belliard are the only two left I think
It was a fun time in my life. When I quit playing I got into High Heat on the PC for my baseball fix (that and coaching) and met a few gamers that I still stay in contact with on various boards (1 or 2 on here I think). Playing that long in the minors (and being a catcher) gives me a good perspective on how good the guys in San Diego are at their jobs. They have put together one hell of a series that I buy every year. They really do deserve our appreciation for creating a solid sim for us "real" baseball guys. I look forward to the game's release every year.

Re: The real show
I went to the Dominican Republic last summer to visit my cousin, he has a friend that got drafted to the Cardinal's Minor League. He came back from St.Louis taller, lighter and of course, the equipment. So I'm wishing him luck on making it with D.R's idol, Pujols
Why did I move here? I guess it was the weather.Comment

Re: The real show
I was pretty heavily recruited in 1995/1996 by Long Beach St, Baylor and Florida Atlantic... but couldn't afford the move (I was in TX in HS). So I went the JC route and played in a fall league and broke my arm (Tony Saunders style) and lost my ride. Now, I coach my son's little league and play in an adult league for as long as my arm can take it.
So I re-live the glory days that almost were on RTTS.Comment

Re: The real show
Good topic.......part of reason for our passion with The Show would stem from individual baseball backgrounds. I did the little league circuit, high school ball, and a cup of coffee as a walkon at the college level.
I was never the star, but I love the game. As Yogi would say....."You can observe a lot by just watching."

Re: The real show
I work with a guy that was singed by the Dodgers at 16. He is from the Dominican and has the build of a catcher. He help coach my sons lil league team but ended up quiting because he felt it was too soft and not real baseball. He was very good with the kids and new more about the game then anyone I ever met. He also plays the show and is very good, KILLS just about everyone....Comment

Re: The real show
I was a four year letterman in high school at Wheeling Park HS in West Virginia. Played freshman ball as a walk-on at West Virginia Tech but never made anything of it and walked away my sophmore year. I did obtain my degree though and decided to put academics first.
My father was a star pitcher for his Wheeling High team in the mid-70's and threw a one hitter in the state championship game in Charleston, WV his senior year. He said he never seriously pursued a career in baseball after H.S. but my grandfather told me otherwise. He's a proud coalminer.
Baseball has always been a great pastime in my family. To this day I still take my family to baseball games, be it high school games in the valley or a trip to PNC Park to watch the buccos. My two boys are 4 and 2 and already into sports...lol. Everything from watching sportscenter to live games.
Pretty excited about the depth of possibilities "The Show" is bringing this year.Comment

Re: The real show
Yep. I was in the Show. I was in the Show for 21 days, once. It was the greatest 21 days of my life. You know, you never touch your luggage in the show--somebody else handles your bags. It's great. The ballparks are like cathedrals, the hotels all have room service, the women all have long legs and brains--it's a smorgasbord.
The women are really hot, eh?
Yeah--and so are the pitchers. They throw ungodly breaking stuff in the Show--exploding sliders. You could be one of those guys--Nuke could be one of those guys, but you don't give a f***, Meat.Comment
