    Re: Player Potential Thread

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but there is a imbalance between the potential ratings distributions for pitchers and position players. Someone already pointed out earlier about how there are only 150+ A/B/C potential position players and 600 D's or less.

It appears on every team if you sort by potential you will see the rosters having loads of pitchers in the A/B/C range. This was the case last year where pitchers tended to have higher potential ratings than position players but I can't recall if it was that extreme.

I really dont see what the big deal is re: the pitcher/position player potential rating ratio...

Shouldnt most pitchers in the bigs be at least average potential? Really how many teams bring up a pitcher who is viewed as being simply crap unless it is to cover an injury?

On the position player side, don't teams bring up guys who can only hit? only run fast? (think Joey Gaithright) They do. IMO, those types of guys are plentiful and definitely not A/B/Cguys.....

Is it possible that SCEA assigned the A-F ratiings as correlating to a 1 to 5 tool player? (yes I know A-F is six letters)? Now if that were the case - how many 5 tool players are there out there?

      .....just an idea.

That's an interesting take on the whole position player vs. pitcher potential stuff. Good point. However, I can't ever see the letter potential spectrum ever truly reflecting the number of tools a player has. You have Ryan Howard who in his own right an A, but his only real tool is Power. Then you have Chase Utley, a legit 5-tool player. Likewise you can have poor 5-tool players, like Alex Rios who can't seem to push himself out of the B range.

However, I had no concerns over this last season even though the same is true this year.

Willingham, Morgan and Flores all need boosts on the Nats. Tavares needs a decrease to a D.

very true..... like I said, just a different perspective, unless the "potential" is there to be a 5-tool guy? (Howard would need ro become a bit quicker) .Since we all know how quantifiable "potential" is.

I just know that from a % standpoint, there are really not very many position guys in the bigs who are absolute studs, or "A-guys." There are a boatload of C,D and F guys.

How does the real-life HOF look?
