Yea, it's all feel. It's helpful to have a good/new controller with a tight left analog stick, so you can feel the slight increments better. They get looser after a while and it's not good for this.

        Re: classic pitch interface question

I went to Classic pitching for the first time in The Show series, and the first time since High Heat PC. I really am liking it, having played about 20 Exhibition games this way. I turn off all helps except the vibration. As a former pitcher, blind guessing where I want to throw the ball seems inappropriate. I know where I want to start the pitch, and then based on his ratings, fatigue, and confidence, will determine the final outcome.

I do notice where I let up on the button does make a difference. Middle of the windup seems to yield the best results. If I hold it too long, the results are more unpredictable. Not enough and "feels" like I am "aiming" the ball, in baseball lingo.

One thing you guys might find to really enhance your gaming experiece with The Show too, is to use Auto-Field, but Manual Throw. This way you get better sim type results fielding, yet then take control of the fielder once he catches the ball, and then proceed to tell him where to throw it. Plus you can still pre-load your throws. The nice thing about this is then you can turn off the gaudy fielding help graphics, and use the TV presentation cameras as now you dont have to worry about having a proper angle to field the ball. This really enhances the gameplay experience. Check it out.

I wish they had a TRUE manual fielding system in place, or at least as an option. Even on manual i feel like i'm getting pulled towards balls by the comp and it's not me fully controlling the fielder thats selected. Idk why they decided to take the control away from damn players these days. Maddens feels like it plays itself compared to back in the sega genesis days ( manual settings ).

In RBl, the fielder that was under your control would NEVER move on his own, unless you moved him. I understand thats it's different now, with all the animations that they never used to have, but i used to loved playing d, and now it's not all me anymore. If i was a better defensive player than someone, it would really show, not the case anymore.

Don't get me wrong, i love the show ( Pitcher vs Hitter battles are great ) It's the only sports game i play nowadays besides winning eleven 9. It's just somthing thats been annoying me about all these sports games nowadays.

                CLASSIC PITCHING AND HOW TO....

                Full motion

Keeping the X button pressed down, let up at three different points of the pitcher's windup to determine velocity.

Slow velocity: Hold X and release when the pitcher just starts his leg lift.

Medium velocity: Hold X and release when the pitcher is at his max leg lift.

Maximum velocity: Hold X and release when the pitcher finishes his leg lift and brings his leg towards the plate.

                From the stretch

Slow velocity: Hold X and release when the pitcher is in mid lift of his motion.

Medium velocity: Hold X and release when the pitcher is in mid stride towards home.

Maxium velocity: Hold X and release when the pitcher has planted his foot towards home and is just starting to bring his arm forward to release the pitch.

Note: If you hold the X button through the entire pitcher's motion you will have max velocity and break but you will lose control and the ball will track away from your desired location.

this has helped me a ton, after my last 2 beat downs in league......now to try it in the next game vs a human opponent

                  Re: classic pitch interface question

New to classic pitching as of a couple days ago...Love the fact that i don't have to pay attention to the meter and can enjoy motions and the graphics of the game!!! Also i think it's more realistic in that you can't locate your pitches 100% of the time, which to me seems like it plays more true to life in that aspect...

haven't played enough games to get a feel for how much pitcher ratings factor into success or lack there of, but i have a feeling it'll be somewhat, if not pretty, noticeable.

something i haven't tried but think i'm gonna is turning fielding to auto with manual throw. that would let u concentrate on preloading throws to your liking as it seems like MANUAL fielding has a bit of AUTO to it anyway.

Anyway, I stink. I've lost so many games in a row and have read so much about classic pitching, I'm not even sure SCEA employers can use it. I'm going to adjust some sliders to compensate, so we'll see.

You gotta love this game, better than MVP, eh?

Which brings up another thing that has baffled me about Classic for years (I love it, don't get me wrong, would never use Meter) ....

The implication of the above statement is that each pitcher has a precise moment when it is "best" to release the button. So ... isn't that just Meter pitching but without the meter? I thought using Classic, I was leaving some of the result up to the pitcher's ratings, essentially to chance, but influenced by ratings for control, effectiveness of pitch.

With Classic, there should not (should there?) be ONE MOMENT that is the best for each pitcher. I think you are over-simplifying things. Or at least I hope so.
You know, I thought about all this after my post and tried just tapping X button, then tried tapping twice and so on. I had more control if I found a release point for each pitcher. That's the way I personally get my control. You may be right, I wouldn't think Sony would put a release point for every single pitcher but it seems to work better than anyone else theory!
