Ok so back on topic, has anyone actually seen a player's potential change? I stated before that I have not seen it it multiple simmed chances, but I have only used the A's, and well if anyone actually does progress in potential we would trade him away anyway. I am curious though if anyone has seen potential changes. If so, how many a season? Up and/or down? Just prospects or current big leaguers as well? Did anyone pair this with training experiments? Any experience in this would be make for an interesting read.

I've seen it, its just very small.
Check the players potential on his player card in the beginning of the season, then sim till the end of the year. The line at the bottom about his potential usually changes, which means his potential changed.
But I've rarely seen a A fall to a B in a season, once. Most of the time its a middle A falling to a low A, or vice versa. I didn't see any big jumps in a season when I was testing.

Middle A or Low A? How do you differentiate between A types? When I did my sim test runs, I never actually looked at the players' cards. I used the manage roster screen and scrolled all the way over. I never saw any potential changes. I have looked at player cards before, but never noticed different types of letter grades. Does it say A, A-, B+, etc?

I'm at work so I can' find it. Theres a chart from last year with potential quote charts.
Just look for the potential quote at the bottom of the player card.

Example different between two SP A potential pitchers
Quotes from player A
"Should be a #2 starter at worse"
Quote from player B
"The closest thing to a sure thing you can get"

Even though they are both A potential on their cards, player B has a higher ceiling than A from the quote. You can also see a players potential when you go to resign them when their contract is up or in FA. Thats the only way you can actually see the gauge on their potential bar.

I completely forgot about that potential bar. It won't help with my prospects (created ones), but it will help me get a feel where the rest of my guys are. I am aware of the different types of quotes. Did you see these quotes change for certain guys? This is very interesting stuff. Last year I had a few B potential guys that had bigger or close to the same size potential bars as a few A potential guys had. I guess it is time to do some more test runs. I am running out of paper haha

Yes I've seen it change.
But it doesn't help players like Jose Lopez whose potential is already jacked up from the start, giving him a D potential by error and he already has the ratings of a B player. He can't increase his potential from a D to B in a year to make up for that gap, so he's just going to a digress to match his potential.
Thats why I said its limited, there aren't huge jumps in potential in one year, at least not by what I've seen so far.

Supposedly yes, the potential can change. However as messed up as potential is in '10 I wouldn't count on it.

Thanks. I like knowing that I can draft a B or C potential player and still have a shot at that player turning out to be decent. I also like knowing that I can trade away my players at the end of their contracts for three prospects, build them up and trade them away for three more prospects each. Rinse and repeat lol.

I agree , it didn't fix the problem of their being too many A potential no name pitchers in the minors. I simmed 3 years, and there were actually more A's.
