Every time I guess the pitch OR location correctly I will use power swing with a slugger.

When I guess BOTH location and pitch, I use it with everyone.

I rarely use it because I think the small increase in power is not worth losing your check swing or the smaller contact area. But it is useful in situations where you're sitting on a pitch on a specific location.

Fooling around in BA when I first got the game....the power swing looked long, and slow to me...it felt that way, at least.

I'd rather focus on making good, sound contact, and driving the pitches that can be driven.

I was completely suprised to see how many of you hardly ever used the power swing. There's only like 2 people out of my lineup I don't power swing with. I'm curious to know what your records online are without using the normal swing much.

I was actually fixing to make a thread covering this same topic. My theory has always been this:

Power hitters: Swing with square until I have two strikes, and I will use it on two strikes when I guess the pitch and location

Everyone else: Only use square when I guess the pitch and location

Now that has always been the case for me, but today I started running some numbers and in my Texas franchise right now, I have hit 7 homeruns. Of those 7, only one has been hit using the power button. Now I understand that I use the contact button far more frequently than the power button, but I still wouldn't have guessed that there would be that big of a discrepancy. In the lineup that I play with, I use the power button on 7 of my 9 batters. Anyways, that is just some food for thought to add to the whole discussion.

I'm using it with more regularity this season. I think it is more effective than previous versions.
I like to be ahead in the count. Instead of always "guessing" and then using power swing , I'm looking more in a certain zone and if the pitch is there, let it rip. I don't guess the pitch type of guess the location.

I went deep with Aubrey Huff last night, 2-0 count, looked down and in, didn't guess pitch. Hit it over the bullpen in Arlington Stadium.

I use it, I find I get alot more gappers or hard grounders that make it through with it, so I use power up to 2 strikes. With 2 strikes the ability to check is more important to me.

I never used the power button till last year. I was having so much trouble hitting I tried something different and I seemed to get more hit variety. I give my power hitters two swings, sometimes three. Sometimes I ll give a non power hitter one swing sometimes none.

I use it when I have a power hitter and it is less than 2 strikes usually unless I am in a just put the ball in play situation. I use it a lot in 2-0 and 3-0 counts; I find I get more doubles and triples when I use it. I was wondering why don't some people never use it? I understand the point about you can't check swing.

When I'm ahead in the count with a power hitter or when I'm positive it'll be a fastball down the middle. It's a thing of beauty when used properly.

Ahead in the count, or if im desperate to hit a homer. Usually with power guys. Last Game I hit three homers. One with X and two with Square

I use it with anybody that can hit about 15 HRs a season. Before 2 strikes I always use the power swing unless I have a pure contact hitter up.
