    Contact vs Power Swing

how do you guys handle using the 2 swing buttons?

i personally hate having 2, but understand why they are there..

i just always want to use power lol.. but i know thats stupid with non power hitters.

on veteran, is it still one button does all?

anyway, just wanted to see how guys here handle the use of the 2 different swing options. situations etc..

    Re: Contact vs Power Swing

    I just use contact swing.
I have tried the power swing but I feel I tend to overuse it.
I see plenty of HR's with using just contact.

With a little over a week left of ST games I have hit homers with.....

    Rodriguez-6, Posada-4, Swisher-2, Winn-2, Cano-2, and Jeter, Granderson, Teixeira, Thames, Gardner all with 1.
Looking at my schedule that works out to be 21 in 21 games. Probably could be a little higher ratio but those numbers have gotten better in the last several games.

yeah, i hit my fair share of HR's with contact. i probably hit more HR's with contact than power.. but i still feel the need to over use it lol.

The only time I ever use power swing is on a 3-0 count. Other than that, I never use it. Strictly a contact swing user and I hit plenty of home runs and sharp doubles. As long as you put the barrel of the bat on the ball, it doesn't matter which swing you use. The ball is going to go far.

I mostly use the contact swing, but if I have count leverage and am not in a situation where I have a dire need simply to get on base, I'll let one rip.

I use High Heat's batting house rules, so 2-0, 3-0, if I have a strong hitter I'll power swing. Nothing like getting a 2-0 FB and jacking it!

I use the power swing exclusively until 2 strikes. Started doing this due to the fact that check swing was practically non existent online last year.

Personally, I'd rather see on button for swing, and a secondary one for defensive swing, as I believe this better represents what a batter might be thinking in the box. Maybe have check swings successful 40% of the time with normal swing, 60% of the time with defensive swing.

I never use the power swing. Contact only. I see plenty of Exbase hits, HR's, etc..
Plus I can use the check swing. I live by the check swing.

                Power Swing:
+ Almost gurenteed a home run on a "meatball" with a good hitter (especially if you use RS up)
+ Will drive any pitch in the middle of the plate
                - NO check swing, so if your on 2 strikes don't use it!
                - Will most likely pop up or weakly hit pitches that are higher/lower or on the corners of the strike zone (i.e. jammed or reach locations)
                - Cannot make contact with good location pitches (see above)
                - Few, if any, foul balls.

                Contact Swing
                + Check swings
+ More foul balls (hence making "contact")
+ Better chance to hit jammed and reached pitches
                - Hard hits are almost exclusively related to "meatball" and PCI location
                - Homeruns only come from perfect harmony between pitch location and PCI location (as above).

So use these pros and cons how you see fit.

I hardly ever use the power swing. In fact I probably use it more with my RTTS guy, which explains why I have yet to hit a HR with him. Most of the time I use it I hit a dribbler to SS or line it hard right to one of the OFs. Even in RTTS its about 3% of the time.

I use Power Swing with power hitters when I have count leverage(2-0, 3-1). I have had some success with it, but have also looked pretty bad a few times too. One time I was way ahead of the pitch missing it badly, and my bat went flying into the stands! Very cool.

This is what I would call the closest thing to the definitive post on this subject.

                        Re: Contact vs Power Swing

The above is a great "manual" for using the power/contact swing, but everything in baseball is situational, or feeling...

If im down 4-2 in the 7th inning with the bases loaded and i have a-rod up, I'm not using the power swing versus if i was down 4-0 at that point....

I also find that you can successfully use the power swing with even the pitcher, although I wouldnt recomend it... I find that using the power swing sometimes, I dont always try and hit a homerun, I try and get a solid line shot....

It just boils down to strategy and situations... For anyone "claiming" they do just find w/o the power swing are greatly suffering... I am a "stat" man and i have hit way more homeruns using power vs contact...

your hr rate using power vs contact over the long haul will show you that the power swing is much more effective in hitting homeruns...

Power Swing if I have a decent power hitter up and I guessed both zone and pitch type correctly.

                          Contact any other time.

The power swing completely trumps the contact swing with any hitter that can put up about 15 or more HRs a year. I play on Legend batting and the power swing offers for too much rewards and not enough risk. With the better power hitters, using the power swing almost guarantees a HR if you have good stick placement and good timing.

I prefer to use power because every time I use contact it does that annoying check swing.
I'm new to The Show so holding down x instead of just tapping it to make a full contact swing feels awkward to me. I think there should be a seperate button for check swing. I don't like having to hold down the button to swing.
