Sad. I am going to try this for a few games. I thought I read people were some improvement. I may start at 0 and 0 and work from there. I would think speed at 0 would help a little. Has it even helped a little?

Re: Fixing God-like Outfielder Ability
The issue here is just for the sake of realism. With the current alignment, if you have proper sliiders you will get around 2 dbls a game, just right. But use those same sliiders with proper alignment, u might get 3 dbls a game. which is too high.
But the OP recognizes that, he just stresses that we need to adjust sliiders in accordance with PROPER alignment. With proper alignment, there should be no problem getting correct number of XB hits, just like the current alignment. But it will produce a more realistic game.
Hope I made sense.Last edited by phillyfan23; 04-01-2010, 01:46 PM.Comment

Re: Fixing God-like Outfielder Ability
I just crushed two balls in Comerica and Damon had no problem reaching the gap, going over his shoulder, and snagging both balls.
I'd be ok with this if it didn't happen not only once or twice a game, but once or twice - in this case - an inning.Comment

Re: Fixing God-like Outfielder Ability
Can you guys post videos?
I just hit a gapper that Hamilton wasn't able to chase down and it went to the wall. I've also posted a video where Ellsbury couldn't get to a ball........i'm just not seeing what you guys are describing (I have Fielder Speed at 0 and Solid Hits at 0).
I have a feeling that some of the balls you guys are describing aren't hit as hard as you might think, and are lazier flies than you believe...i don't knowComment

Re: Fixing God-like Outfielder Ability
I play on All star with default sliders and have seen CPU OFs make some amazing plays. I expect this from Torii Hunter, Ichiro and others alike. However when Magglio Ordonez is making catches that IRL he would never make it can be quite frustrating. I'm a former outfielder and avid baseball watcher and I know how hard it is to get back on a scorcher. However,Magglio does it with ease. Has anyone noticed that sometimes when you hit a line drive that seems to be going over the outfilders head, that the OF will put his glove up, with his back turned and make the catch. Im not talking about over the shoulder catches because thats quite common. Also another concern is OFs making catches while crashing into the wall. Yeah players should be able to make this catch, but it seems too common. Maybe i need to adjust the fielder speed??Last edited by mjarz02; 04-01-2010, 10:26 PM.Comment

Re: Fixing God-like Outfielder Ability
A lot of it might just be an animation issue...it's almost as if you guys don't mind the outfielders catching them, but when they do they make it look easy as if they're cruising. Maybe if the devs add more "hustle" style fielding animations for the outfielders, dependent on their defensive savyness or something. Guys like Ichiro and Hunter can coast around, while an Adam Dunn lumbers more and might look less comfortable in the routes and his animations.
Because other than the animations sometimes making it seem easy, i don't think the amount of balls getting caught are out of the realm of possibility. Like I said, I see plenty of loopers fall into the gap or go over the outfielder's head. The spacing and outfielder speed (at 0) feels decent with me. Sure it's not perfect but it's not that bad.Comment

Re: Fixing God-like Outfielder Ability
I changed the fielder speed to 0 and there is a big difference. I have now hit several shots over the outfielders head and even had a HR that went off a glove of the outfielder on the fly. It does not seem so automatic now that an outfielder will get to the ball.
My question now is how to I get the pitcher to throw more strikes in the zone? Way too much nitpicking the corners or balls that are so far off the plate they hit the ondeck cirlce. Is there a way to get more hittable pitches? And I am on Allstar.Boston born Red Wings fan.Comment

Will do. Does that stop the CPU from throwing in the dirt? The medium to not so good pitchers tend to hit the dirt A LOT.Boston born Red Wings fan.Comment

Re: Fixing God-like Outfielder Ability
it will help if you zero those sliiders out.....you will be getting doubles and triples no problems. sliiders will take care of that.
The issue here is just for the sake of realism. With the current alignment, if you have proper sliiders you will get around 2 dbls a game, just right. But use those same sliiders with proper alignment, u might get 3 dbls a game. which is too high.

I play with fielder reaction and speed at ZERO, and with solid hits at 2.
I do see doubles to the gap and over the head of outfielders, but I and others don't see an issue with the amount of extra base hits, it's the lack of variety/types of extra base hits. Also, there is a realism disparity between ripping a ball over an outfielders head and easily knowing you will get to the bag for a double; and seeing the outfielder always be at the shadow of the ball.
How often do you see outfielders nowhere near a ball in The Show? Maybe that's a more pertinent question to what we're getting at. And my answer would be around 1% of the time.
But to reiterate the point in bold above, we need a game that gets alignment correct and THEN we use sliders to adjust from there.Comment

Re: Fixing God-like Outfielder Ability
Maybe this is the reason why OFers cover so much ground? They slide over the grass... see 2 video examples.

Re: Fixing God-like Outfielder Ability
It's a video game man. Players have to sync up with the animations to occur properly. It's not real players that have infinite movement possibilities and ranges of motion.
Were we always this picky? We can do slow motion analysis and nitpicking of every single game ever made.Comment

Re: Fixing God-like Outfielder Ability
anybody play on LEGEND hitting? if so, what are you doing to increase the number of gappers? besides timing a fastball JUST RIGHT with power hitting.
Currently, I have solid hits at 4 and Fielder Speed at 4. I was going to try 3, but then i read this thread... may just go ahead and try fielder speed 2. Any ideas?Comment
