Thats just it, Im being patient as Im drawing out the CPU's pitch counts and walking 2-5 times a game normally. I honestly think my biggest problem is suddenly Im always late on the fastball, it doesnt matter if its 95mph or 88mph, Im late no matter what I do. I dont know if I changed my mindset at some point or my reactions suddenly went to **** in the course of a week or two but something has definitely changed. Last game Tim Redding was actually throwing fastballs right by me, it was pretty sad. For everything that SCEA did right, the pitcher confidence and variable umpires are overdone. There is nothing more aggravating then having an ump change his strike zone multiple times during a game, I get that it might be considered realistic by some but at some point I think were going overboard with the addiction to things being "real".

Here it is again, now that Im getting any amount of offense, suddenly stupid **** is happening on defense. So far Ive had Jamey Carroll take a routine double play ball and loft it to first allowing the guy to beat it out which resulted in a run scoring. Then in the top of the 9th, down 4-3, Todd Helton hits one to right field and the damn game gives me control of the CF, and to make matters worse I clicked the L2 button 3 times before it changed me to the RF only to then watch it bounce over the wall for a ground rule double resulting in another run scoring and me down 5-3 heading into the bottom of the 9th. Before I couldnt hit and nothing screwy happened, now Im hitting and defensively speaking, screwy crap is happening right and left to cost me the game.

You have to stay patient, simple as that. I rarely play more than one game of The Show in a day because it requires more focus and intensity than any sports game ever made. If you lose focus, lose your ability to read pitches, expand your zone as a hitter and become impatient....then this game will eat you alive and make you want to throw your PS3 out the window.

Not many OS'ers do it but try hitting from the pitcher camera. I started doing this in 08 and absolutely love it. I can read pitches a little better (it's tough when a lefty is on the mound sometimes because of the angle) and love the look of it. For whatever reason I am generally more patient when using this angle, maybe because it's prettier to look at so I don't mind staring at it longer?

Ohh I hear ya, there is a fine line between taking pitches to remain patient and draw walks as well as drive the CPU's pitch count up and letting pitches go that you should be able to drive. I played another game against Arizona on the road and won 4-3 thanks to 2 in the 8th and 1 in the 9th. Nothing strange happened this game but I did designate Carroll for assignment after that God awful turn of the would be double play in that last game. DeWitt was called up and Im done with Carroll, hes completely useless as hes hitting below .150 and hes not doing much defensively either. Pitching wise Im perfectly fine, Im loving the results Im getting as Im walking guys like never before and Im not just mowing through teams but offensively is another story. Hopefully over time I will be able to turn it around a little more.

Well i played my first game of my franchise with Pittsburgh last night, and i must say that i was very patient at the plate...took alot of pitches i should have swung at....the previous 3 games before this the pitchers pitch count was at like 65-70 in the 9th inning....i had Billingsly up to 89 in the 7th...didn't draw a walk though..but i made him pitch the ball to me...I also won the game 3-2...Mccutchin hit a 2 RBI double in the 3rd, and Clement hit a RBI single in the bottom of the 9th to win....Can't seeme to find Garrett Jones power though....seems hes not gettin no lift on his hard hits...but overall a pretty good start.....

                    This.

Almost every time I've gotten so frustrated that I'm pounding my head, trying to snap my controller in half, and/or grinding my teeth so hard that the enamel is stripping off, it's because I played more than my budgeted one game a night and lost focus in the second game. Things can snowball really quickly in this game, too, so a few screw ups due to inattention or fatigue can lead to a whole lot of awful in a hurry.

Last night was a perfect example of this. I decided to squeeze in one more game after having a really good, fun first game. Big mistake. I was already getting tired, as I play later in the evening after my kids are asleep. Plus, the level of concentration used in the first game had worn me out. I went from starting the second game with a 6-0 lead to a 12-6 deficit (playing as the Phils against the Nats). My hitting went cold due to getting impatient and chasing bad pitches, which was frustrating enough. Even worse, I had zero command of my pitches because I couldn't concentrate enough to get decent timing on the meter. It was batting practice out there. Making things even more aggravating, four grounders went under Polanco's glove, each of which led to runs (at least two of those were with two outs, too). A liner went under Werth's glove as he was charging (looked like it should've been caught) and a fly ball at the wall was missed by Victorino when he got caught in an animation (note to self: don't run the OF full throttle back to the wall and then try to come forward to catch shots to the warning track. He ain't coming forward). My pitching was awful, but those things made a bad situation absolutely infuriating. I was going to play out the game and take my lumps, but I woke up my one year old due to an outburst after I chased another pitch two feet out of the strike zone. I didn't want to risk doing that again. When I felt things slipping away, I should've saved the game and come back to it tonight. I didn't even think of that at the time, though, I was so angry, so I just shut it down. I told myself to leave the disc in the system and just walk away, because it would've been too tempting to snap the disc in anger. Hopefully, I've finally learned my lesson about trying to push on after one game.

Ya...i like to play a few games if i can a night....last night i felt myself getting tired after the first one, and decided to try and play a 2nd also.....I was doing pretty good in the second one 2..just was tired, and ready for bed. So i just decided to save it and play it today....overall though i am getting better at staying patient.....I want McCutchen to be the League Leader in Steals this year, and i can't seem to get him in stealing situations...But it was only 1 Game.....

When I start struggling at the plate, I go and take some BP. I'll do 50 pitches each from a righty and a lefty, and also will change up the hitters from righty to lefty.

                        It really helps (me, anyway).

you know, people in korea play starcraft for 10 hours a day training. People play FPS's hours and hours on end to practice for tourneyments and stuff... I agree that the show takes patience, but to say that you need to like play only once a day, or take a break halfway through the game... I dunno it just seems like you're making this game out to something it isn't.

I agree with what you are saying to a certain extent. If it really is like you guys say and I can only play this game effectively once every other day after taking an Adderall, then no thanks....

The comments on "focus" and "concentration" are going to vary of course, depending on whether you challenge yourself with game settings.

For me, the focus and concentration are more than for any other game I've ever played. But I like it, it's very immersive. The total opposite of just button-mashing mindlessly.

I use Guess Pitch to cut down on the frustration a bit, and also put Pitch Speed at -5 (all the way left) so that I don't feel totally crazed. Even with that setting, I literally "kick" my legs in the air every time I swing at a pitch ... kind of an odd little quirk, and my son has learned not to sit in front of me when I'm playing....

It may be different for you depending on your situation. OS has a lot of older posters. I run my own small business, am usually working long hours (with breaks for OS of course), then go to the gym, then cook dinner. It's usually 9:30-10p after a LONG day when I finally get a chance to play The Show. At that point I'm mentally exhausted, half the time physically exhausted too. That's when The Show's difficulty, I guess you'd call it, shows itself. I can play basketball and football games just fine when I'm pretty tired, but not The Show. I guess I look at it that The Show is not a game I'd consider to "wind down and relax" with like I do with Madden or 2K basketball, etc. I have to be awake and ready to focus or I'll be a disaster at the plate.

If I'm a college kid or younger with no real responsibilities, can sleep past noon four days a week and have tons of free time then it's probably a lot different when it comes to The Show.

It may also depend on the settings and sliders you use.
