Always throw it either inside or outside...never high or low, or like you said, it will either hang or end up in the dirt. Took me a while to learn my lesson there.

I also think you need to watch the confidence meter on curves closely. If you aren't hitting your spots don't throw it against Pujols w. the bases loaded, even if you're in an 0-2 count and plan on burying it in the dirt. You need to make sure you get your confidence up before using it as a strike out pitch. Throw get me over strikes to the bottom of the lineup or something low risk like that.

Some games it just doesn't work and you wont be able to throw it.

I love the 12-6 curveball. With my starters, I throw it outside until I get a feel for where the release point should be. For relievers, it's the only pitch I throw during the 8 warmup pitch period before facing a batter so that I also get a feel for where the release point should be. There's nothing better than dropping the pitch in against a batter for a called third strike.

Do realize you'll sacrifice command of your other pitches if you don't also warm up with them? Watch the little command meters when you warm up, if you throw 8 curves then your command will go way up with that pitch (as long as you throw them for strikes.)
