Re: Gave Up on Manual/Assisted Fielding...and LOVING IT!
I think im going to try this as well. I think having the option to choose manual throwing will be key to me as I want to decide where to throw the ball when I catch it. Im also getting tired of misplaying the ricochets off the wall resulting in extra base hits and also getting tired of the ball just going under Arod's glove. No harm in giving it a shot.PSN: ckarlic

Re: Gave Up on Manual/Assisted Fielding...and LOVING IT!
Last night in a 3-3 game top of the eighth, Johnny Damon blasted a ball into deep right centre for the CPU Tigers with the bases loaded and 1 out.
I was fielding with Ankiel for my Royals in RF and began to chase the ball down while it was in the air. As the ball was coming down I was closing in on it. I knew I wasn't going to make it, so right at the last moment I dived to my right.
Ankiel makes the catch, springs to his feet and fires a cannon into 2nd base and throws out Inge for the inning ending double play. I ended up winning in 10 innings to go level with the Rays in the wildcard chase.
First time I've made a horizontal dive for a catch in the outfield. It felt more than good.
That's why I field manually.Comment

Re: Gave Up on Manual/Assisted Fielding...and LOVING IT!
eh. i'm 39 years old. i get to play this game when my fiance's out of the house or sufficiently zonked out (no, no tylenol PM's in her tea)...
i simply put, do not have the time to invest to learn the nuances of fielding the way i would like to justify my taking over 'fielding'.
i pitch every inning, but will typically auto-skip 1/3 of my team's turn at the plate.
some might say that is absolutely insane...but honestly, this is a way for me to maximize the reward for me, given the time i can put into it.Comment

Re: Gave Up on Manual/Assisted Fielding...and LOVING IT!
I just tried this (Auto Fielding/Manual Throwing) and I really like it. Ive seen some great defensive plays with Auto fielding on. I still lost though but I can't blame my lose on my porr fielding. I blame my pitching and not hitting where it counts.PSN: ckarlic

Plus all those ugly markers are off the field, no tag up indicator, no rob homerun arrow, no Rex (had to throw that in)Comment

Re: Gave Up on Manual/Assisted Fielding...and LOVING IT!
Ditto! I did a leap at the wall to rob a home run, only it turned out to be a little shy of a home run, but it still felt awesome to leap up at the wall and save what would have been the game. I actually had to pause the game afterward and just take it all in. If I were auto fielding, the cpu would have made that catch and I would have been like, eh that is their job. Definitely would not have enjoyed it as much.Last night in a 3-3 game top of the eighth, Johnny Damon blasted a ball into deep right centre for the CPU Tigers with the bases loaded and 1 out.

Re: Gave Up on Manual/Assisted Fielding...and LOVING IT!
I've been using Auto Fielding/Manual Throwing for as long as I can remember...at least back to MVP days and probably back to High Heat...
I know some people believe you are only playing 1/2 the game, but I love it.

Re: Gave Up on Manual/Assisted Fielding...and LOVING IT!
Just to reiterate what has been said earlier: That's what's so great about this game. You can nearly customize how you see fit. Personally I like manual fielding, but that's just me. If I screw up in the field, that's why I lose. If I made a bad pitch and the CPU goes yard, that's my bad. I like having control of everything.
However, it's cool to see others enjoying the game in different ways. Again, that's what makes The Show so great. It's versatile.Comment

Re: Gave Up on Manual/Assisted Fielding...and LOVING IT!
I've always used auto fielding, and when the CPU for my team makes this sort of play in that sort of situation it feels amazing, just because it feels like I'm watching it on TV AND I know that the ratings were a big factor (I'm huge on realism). Not saying that big plays feel better on auto fielding than on manual fielding, but it's all preference.Ditto! Re: Gave Up on Manual/Assisted Fielding...and LOVING IT!
I certainly don't "love" it (would much rather have a great manual fielding system like MVP 05) but it's a must IMO. I've been using auto fielding since 08, each year I try manual fielding and it's still horrible."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier

Re: Gave Up on Manual/Assisted Fielding...and LOVING IT!
I take that back lol.I have just tried this for the first time and enjoyed it, saw two catching animations at 1st and 3rd ive never seen before.
Think ill probably stick with it, i like the fact the 3rd baseman "olay" animation and wall suction problems for outfielders very rarely happen on auto.
Yes it eliminates some of the human errors but on the flipside the fielders seem (to me anyway) to be able run faster when under my control and take better routes to balls.
There are pitfalls either way but i think ill go back to assisted, i can live or die by my own shortfalls that way, die mainly lol.Comment
