I somehow missed your latest post. So you are saying you won't promote Johnson because you wouldn't have Berkman if Johnson weren't hurt. But now that you have Berkman hurt, you can't bring up Johnson? I am sorry but I have to laugh at the whole super team comment. You have Arod, Tex, Berkman, Jeter, Cano, Posada, Granderson, and Swisher in your lineup, but having Johnson would make you a super team? Haha you see how silly that sounds? If you don't want to use Johnson, you should at least trade him away. Give the big guy a chance to put up numbers with another team.

Re: **All Trades Discussion Thread**
No...I mean in real life, the Yanks would have never traded for Berk if Johnson wasn't out for the season. Now that Berk's hurt, I'd feel really guilty calling Johnson up. If Berk got hurt in real life, the Yankees wouldn't have that luxury. Johnson is not a Yankee. The fact that he's on the roster I downloaded WITH Berkman feels cheap.
I know...it sounds funny when I read what I'm writing too. I plan on doing exactly what you suggested. Trading Johnson to ever so slightly shift the balance of power! LOL
Okay, here's a trade opportunity. Does this sound like it's unfairly in my favor? If so...suggestions?
Apart from Mccann, The Braves are getting ZERO from any of the other catchers in the organization. I have Chad Moeller in AAA, tearing it up. He's only owed 300,000 for the rest of the year.
Their willing to trade me a struggling Alex Gonzalez and their top pitching prospect Mike Minor for him.
I really would like to improve my bench, so Gonzalez would give me the middle infielder I wanted anyway. He's owed 2.6 million, and is on the last year of his contract. Since The Braves have plenty of solid infielders, I'm looking at this more as a salary dump by them.
Minor is an A potential, with 2 years remaining on his contract at around 350 K per.
Both of us are in the playoff hunt.
Because I feel guilty about how much of a steal this is, considering Moeller is in his last year and I have no plans for him, I was wondering if I should sweeten the pot for The Braves, even though I don't HAVE to.
Should I throw in a vet anyway? Johnson, Thames, Marte (signed thru next year)? Though this would kinda kill the salary dump logic from The Braves.
Or, should I throw in a prospect at a position their thin in?
Or, should I take the deal as is...as one sided as it appears? I don't know, is it me, or IS the deal one sided?Last edited by Heroesandvillains; 10-16-2010, 06:51 PM.Comment

Re: **All Trades Discussion Thread**
Okay, I did the deal anyway.
The Braves were all in for either Moeller, or Tim Redding (the number 7 starting pitcher in my organization. He's on the last year of his 1.2 million dollar contract, and rates/performs better than almost all of the Braves' AAA pitchers). I dealt them both.
I figured this sounded more fair.
Yankees get:
INF Alex Gonzalez (final year/owed 2.6 million and STRUGGLING)
P Mike Minor (The Braves' top pitching prospect)
Braves get:
C Chad Moeller (final year/owed 300 K)
P Tim Redding (well rated/owed 1.2 Million)
I think this makes sense for The Braves because apart from their 5 MLB starters, they'd really have no one to call up incase of a short term injury (Redding could spot start just fine), and they'd still have plenty left after this deal to trade for an ace if they needed to due to a long-term injury in their rotation (Hinske could be traded, for instance).
And as I said earlier, The Braves are really thin at catcher and Moeller is playing very well. He's a more than suitable back up.
I wanted someone solid to back up Jeter/A-Rod/Cano. Ramio Pena has been a major disappointment and is more of a liability than an asset.
And other than Ivan Nova and Hector Noesi, my pitching prospects aren't good. Mike Minor will definitely balance that out.Last edited by Heroesandvillains; 10-17-2010, 05:33 PM.Comment

Re: **All Trades Discussion Thread**
Well you know what I say, if the other team allows it, then it is a fair trade. I am not saying it isn't a steal, but there a just as many steals in real life even though the trade was fair. Good job picking up someone like Gonzalez. I could actually see that deal going down in real life. Probably not after he was traded to the Braves, but you never know.
That just got me thinking. What would really be awesome to add to the game would be no trade clauses. That way, a guy like Gonzalez could veto the trade since he would be a backup for you and a starter for Atlanta. Or he might prefer to have a ring and ok the trade.
In my franchise, the Yankees are the only rebuilding team this year. When July 1st hit, Arod, Tex, Jeter, CC, and several others I can't recall all went on the block. I am really hoping some of these players get moved before the deadline. A part of me wants to trade for Arod, but he would take up a bench slot since I can't dump him to A without getting claimed off waivers.Comment

Re: **All Trades Discussion Thread**
The trade looked even better after it went through!
I checked The Braves pitching rotation to see what they did with Redding, and they actually have to start him! I didn't realize it before, but they had a reliever in the rotation filling for a DL'd starter (they actually have 2 starters on the DL). So Redding was actually a good pick up for them. A vet to plug into the rotation until they get healthy.
I'm going to do all it takes to keep the trades I make realistic sounding. That's kinda why I threw in a decent player without having too. Yeah, I agree, I can absolutely see the Yanks dealing for Gonzalez.
Here's a trade I was offered, that I'd LOVE to take, but can't.
The Dodgers offered me:
P Clayton Kerahaw
Wanted in return from The Yankees:
P Damaso Marte
1B Nick Johnson
Now, I agree that a reliever of Marte's caliber and Nick Johnson together are worth a top tier pitcher, but because Kershaw is SO young, and SO cheap...I think this would be very unrealistic. So I think I'll decline this one.
What do you think?
All this aside, I agree, no trade clauses would be fantastic!
Why if you did get A-Rod would you bench him? Is it because of his age?Comment

Re: **All Trades Discussion Thread**
I would jump on that trade if I were you. The dodgers could certainly use Johnson, that is if his power rating is where I think it is, and who couldn't use a top caliber pitcher in the pen? And Kershaw is a beast that you will regret if you don't pull the trigger. And they offered it to you, so even better. I always get terrible offers. The Twins offered me Harris, who is batting 240 with 3 home runs, for Kouzmanoff who is batting 340 with 17 home runs. I also get offers all the time for nobody relievers or bench playing middle infielders for the A potential prospects of mine. They must think me pretty stupid at this point.
I would bench Arod simple so he doesn't break the home run record. I played around once and traded for him then sent him to A ball, but he was claimed instantly by Houston I think. So if I did trade for him, I would have to keep him on the bench and thus lose a roster spot since I have no intention of ever letting him see a pitch again. But I doubt it will happen. There is a very small chance that he will get traded, but I doubt it with his salary.Comment

Re: **All Trades Discussion Thread**
I think my guys are worth a pitcher like Kershaw, but do you think it's unrealistic that they would trade a guy with his service time?
I'm thinking I'd trade the same two guys for a vet stud pitcher. But then again, the Kershaw proposal does have me licking my chops a little bit.
Here's the thing. It says that Kershaw is in the last year of his deal. The Dodgers will get the chance/take the chance to offer him salary arbitration, right? If so, I'd be hard pressed to feel good about trading for him, though a guy like him would be ideal for my team's future, considering Vazquez will be gone and Pettitte could retire.
What did Kershaw do/where did he end up after year one of your franchise?Last edited by Heroesandvillains; 10-18-2010, 05:15 PM.Comment

Re: **All Trades Discussion Thread**
If Kershaw is about to head to arbitration in the off season, that means he will be expecting a serious payday. Some teams will nontender a guy just so they don't have to go to arbitration. With young guys, especially pitchers, there is always a chance that they will not get much better or they will end up injured and need tommy john surgery. And of course this is a game where not everything can be compared one to one with real life. Like I said before, Ben Sheets in the game is a beast and well worth Carlos Pena, but in real life Sheets didn't really make a full recovery. In my franchise, I believe Kershaw got traded to the Nationals for Strasburg and that A prospect catcher of theirs named Norris. I seem to remember him getting moved again, but I don't have my data in front of me at the moment. I will check later tonight. Anyway, if you are serious about rebuilding, he could be a key piece.Comment

Well I finally made my first big trade in my franchise. 4 games into the 2011 season. I noticed Adrian Gonzalez was already on the block. SD was coming off a 90+ loss season so the figured they would start unloading early I guess. So I offered them Adam Dunn, who I signed in the off season, A rated starter Jay Jackson and A rated 3B josh Vitters. And they accepted.
I tried all off season to acquire Gonzalez with no luck so I was shocked they accepted this trade. I hated to trade Dunn so soon but I felt this was to good to pass up.
So what do you guys think, fair trade?Comment

Re: **All Trades Discussion Thread**
I actually think you got screwed on that on Zippy. On the game anyway. You basically switch a power hitter for another power hitter and lost a top starting prospect and a 3B prospect. Then again, I am biased because Adam Dunn is doing so well for me.
It isn't realistic only because you aren't allowed to trade players you picked up in free agency during the preseason until June I think. Other than that, the trade looks pretty good.Comment

Re: **All Trades Discussion Thread**
The FA thing is really what is bothering me. I added another A rated starter Jefry Antigua for a F rated 39 year old reliever. In a separate trade. My rationale is I traded the three A rated prospects for Gonzalez and then the Padres signed Dunn to replace him. They save 6 mil and I get the 1B I really wanted.
It makes me feel a little bit better about the deal.Comment

Re: **All Trades Discussion Thread**
Haha so you weren't happy in screwing yourself over so you threw in another prospect to screw yourself over more? I really hope AGon pans out for you. I wouldn't have worried about the FA trade issue. If it is allowed in the game, then it should be fine, even if not technically by the letter of the law. Same with calling up players and sending them down. If there is no waiting period, then do it every day if you like. But that is just me. Unlike some people on here, when I start my franchise all players are in play, even if they are hurt in real life to begin the season.Comment

Re: **All Trades Discussion Thread**
Cards is right, by rule, FA signings can't be traded until sometime in June.
I also agree with Cards that the deal is a little unrealistic, and a lot more in their favor.
Gonzalez is great, don't get me wrong. And the fact that the Padres placed him on the block that early isn't your fault; but all in all, if it were closer to the deadline, you would have only needed to give up the prospects instead of the prospects and a superstar for him. This would have also to allowed you save Dunn until assessing your playoff chances in July. A player like Dunn could single handedly rebuild your minor league system via trade for prospects.
That said, Gonzalez is yours now and you should be happy to have such a talented player on your squad. There's no doubt that he will serve you well and IS an all around better player than Dunn (which can't be said for power hitters btw).Comment

Anyway, I really like the trade. Dunn was 2-15 w/ 1 HR, 3 RBI's in 4 games. AGon is 4-8 with 2 HR's and 3 RBI's in 2 games since the trade. Jackson was probably 5th in line as far as starting pitchers were concerned for me (had a 7.58 era in ST) so I didn't mind losing him and I don't have a need for Vitters with ARam around for 2 more years.
The FA thing I'm over. I only signed Dunn to begin with because Carlos Pena had already signed a 7 yr./10 mil contract with KC by the time I got around to going after Free agents. And the game won't let you trade playoff eligible players until after Jan.1. So I had to make a move before I got stuck with Micah Hoffpauir as my 1B going into 2011.Comment

Re: **All Trades Discussion Thread**
With the exception of Nick Johnson, which I've gone into great detail about (heck, I don't want to win 120 games!) all players are in play for me too. Joe Nathan, for instance. I know he didn't play all year, but it's MY franchise world, not the REAL LIFE franchise world, and The Twins in my world need him.
I just have some issue with the trade logic, so I like to step in to keep things kind of fair. This is why I'm still debating the Kershaw trade. The more I think about it though, the more I want him.
If he's available in July, which is when I believe a real team would make that sort of move, I'll probably do it. I can't wait to stop pitching with Vazquez!Last edited by Heroesandvillains; 10-19-2010, 04:09 PM.Comment
