I played every game of the first season, but now am playing every other game. I do this in order to get through multiple seasons. Actually I don't sim, I do the Sportscast manager so that I still have say so in the games.

I downloaded the 3rd patch right before I started my 2nd season. I was already in the offseason and didn't want anything to change, not sure if it actually would have, by d/l the 3rd patch.

I'll have to get back to you on the upcoming draft, as thus far I haven't payed that much attention to it. I don't really get into the scouting of players, as I just use my own judgement for the most part.

Yeah...commentary is now this game's weak spot. I know others say fielding and all, but I feel that fielding is good, not great. Commentary on the other hand is average, especially considering what the 2k series has done. Dynamic commentary has to be brought into the Show, as baseball is one sport where it would make the most sense. (ok thats stretching it, but baseball purists know what I mean)

Yeah...I don't wanna talk about Pujols right now. He's hitting mostly air right now, and is really ticking me off. But just as soon as I think I'm going to bench him to let him regain his "abilities" he has an awesome night. Case in point vs the Astros...4 for 4 with 2 homers, a double, and 5 RBI.

once the scouting report is finished, thats all you get, unless I'm missing something, which could very well be the case as I don't pay much attention to it. But honestly, I don't recall ever getting new information on a player, after I've been given notification that scouting is complete.

Not CB, but I might be able to help. Depending on how good your scouts are and who they are scouting, you will get one line of information per so many days/weeks. Each line corresponds to one of the 6 letter grades you see on any player card. The most important one to look for is the potential one, as when you draft you will be able to see everything else you need to know about the player. You may be able to uncover the potential grade right away, or it may be the very last thing uncovered. You don't even need to know what the potential letter grade is in regards to the line uncovered by your scout. You just need to know which line is in fact a potential rating. Once uncovered, you will be able to see the letter grade on the player's card come draft day. There is an entire thread on what potential each line means, but it will be something along the lines of "future star" or "sure thing". I hope that helps. It took a lot of work, but I think I really have the draft figured out now. Let me know if you have any questions

So your advice would be to scout the prospect until you find out what hes potential will be?

I think what he's saying is continue to scout and look for a comment, made by your scout on the player, that tips off the potential of the candidate.

For example, most A and B potential players have a comment on their card that says something like, "A sure thing" or "Future All-Star". Those are the types of comments you see on a player's card that has very good potential.

If a scout mentions something like that in his scouting report, more than likely, the candidate has very good potential.

That is exactly what I am saying. If you are unsure of what to look for, check out some of your young players. The very last line will be the potential line. You will get a hang of the lingo once you see a few. This will save you so much time scouting and allow you to scout more players your first year. After you draft, you can continue to scout players for next year. The problem is that the players drafted can still be scouted so you have to do one of three things: write down players that are drafted to avoid scouting them, only scout 17 year old players, or a combination of the two. I keep a list of first round and sup round picks and only scout 17 year olds and high rated players that were not selected in the draft.

I keep forgetting to ask how much you ended up paying Pujols and for how many years. I plan on keeping Pena, but if for some reason he gets stubborn and wants too much, I might be better off spending money on Pujols. Pujols gets paid $100M over 4 years. He's making about $23.6M this year.

I also forgot to mention that I replaced almost my entire coaching staff. Dave Magadan is the new head coach. Neville Cole is the new hitting coach. 1B is now manned by Gil Silver. I re-signed Mike Gallego for 3rd despite a much higher offer from other teams as a hitting coach. I guess he either doesn't want the responsibility or else he just love coaching for the A's. I kept Curt Young, his abysmal ratings in most attributes. I just couldn't justify firing the pitching coach that had the second best era and the AL Cy Young winner. I have never heard of Neville Cole or Gil Silver. Are they made up coaches or did they come from other teams? Anyone familiar with these gentlemen? Anyone else play long enough to see if retired players become coaches?
