Understood, but therein lies my gripe. If they are coming up for a month and I'm not going to use them, why should I have to use an option on them? I do want them on my 40-man so they are protected, but the game shouldn't just push everyone on the 40-man to MLB come the end of the minor league season.

Re: Is there any way?
That is my concern as well. I have my franchise settings so that roster moves are automatic (since moving between AAA, AA and A on a daily basis was driving me batty - plus filling in for all the minor injuries was a pain). But I guess what I need to do is change it from "auto" to "manual" just prior to "september callups".
Since most of my guys run out of ML options in a few seasons because of this, I often have several guys from my 40-man roster go through a waiver period at the start of the following season. Fortunately, I've never had another team claim any of them, even though some of these guys are fairly talented.Comment

Re: Is there any way?
That is not correct. They do not use an option during September call ups. They won't use their option until you send them back down after spring training, which is exactly what would happen if you did not call them up in September. If you have young players that you don't want to run out of options, simply do not put them on your 40 man roster. In this year's game, there is a rule 5 eligibility variable. Last year they did not have this and anyone older than 22 I think was elligible. In that case, what you are saying makes perfect sense. But with 2010 this is not the case. You do not have to put them on your 40 man roster right away. But once you do put them there, you will have only 3 years left whether they were called up in September or not.Understood, but therein lies my gripe. Re: Is there any way?
No, in the game, when YOU send them back down, it DOES use an option. However, I'm not sure if it uses an option if you keep them on the active roster until the season ends. The game allows you to use any player on your 40 man roster after the Sept call-ups. I'm mid game right now, but later I will check if it uses an option if you keep them on the active roster til season's end. (I don't think it does). That is not correct. Basically, what I'm saying, is keep them on the active roster, but just don't use them.
In real life, an Option isn't used, because the teams are allowed to carry 40 men on the active roster (except playoff teams, who must have a 25 man playoff roster) through Spring Training, when players must then be re-assigned to the Minor Leagues.
Also, in real life, I believe that Service time doesn't accumulate for players called up when the roster's expand to 40.....Only for players on the roster before the roster expansion.Comment
