How do i pick off runners?

Hey guys, I'm currently in my 9th year of RTTS as a starting pitcher and I absolutely love the game.

My only problem so far is that I have never successfully picked off a runner! I select my pitch, hit L1 to step of the mound and hit the button of the base I want to throw to, and it takes my player forever to throw it to the base.

Does my pitcher just have a terrible pick off move or am I doing something wrong?

I'm having a hall of fame career so far, but I have no control of the basepath!lol

Any tips or ideas would be awesome. Thanks guys.

Not sure if the controls are different for RTTS but...

Casual pickoff -- hold L2 + single tap base icon
Quick pickoff -- Hold L2 + double tap base icon
Deceptive pickoff (if applicable) -- Hold L2 + press and hold base icon

What does it mean by deceptive pickoff "if applicable"? I'm assuming it's only applicable if the pitcher doesn't have to turn his body to throw the ball - a lefty throwing to first base or a righty throwing to third?

That would be my guess, I haven't tried it. I actually hadn't looked these up until today but oddly enough I brought the little booklet to work so I could, random someone would make a thread asking about it on the same day lol

Yeah. Its basically a half effort leg lift and falling toward the bag. righties cant deceptive move to 1b, lefties cant to third.

Does anybody else have problems with the quick move to 1st? I'm to the point of not using it anymore since at least 50% of my quick pickoff throws go into the stands
