when do you do mound visits for your pitcher?

say something happens, and my pitcher's confidence bar drops from making chicks blush to massive shrinkage.

send the mgr to the mound for a visit, and instead of regrowing a pair, the pitcher gets worse.

obviously it wasn't good to send the mgr, wasted a visit.

when do you send the mgr 'successfully'?

Great post. I wonder this as well. Sometimes I get it right, but for the most time, I time it wrong. I notice the CPU will do it after 3-4 hits in a row with a run scored. But I would like word back on people who have had constant success with it.

          I swear it's 50/50 for me

You can flip a coin when I do a mound visit as to whether it will help or hurt my pitcher

MOST of the time, I'll go to the mound when I'm trying to get my pitcher to finish that current inning he's in. For example, he may not have thrown an inordinate amount of pitches, but on that day his stamina is almost at "0" and he's at 5 2/3 innings pitched...so my hope is to get him thru 6...

I use it to warm up a pitcher or I'll use it like a basketball timeout - to stop a "run" by the other team. If my pitcher has given up several baserunners in a row and it's about to get away from him, I'll go to the mound.

As far as effectiveness of visits, I don't pay much attention to the confidence bar, but it seems to sometimes slow the onslaught of hits down.

They must allow us to use multiple mound visits on next years version!

Let it be only 1 max. mound visit for online.

It's an actual rule that you can't visit the mound more than once an inning.

It's an official MLB rule - you get one mound visit, on the 2nd visit your pitcher must come out.

What they should do is have:
                    A) Catcher visits
                    B) Coach visits

yes, i wish i could send the pitching coach there to settle the pitcher down instead of wasting a mgr. visit if you're gonna implement this tempermental confidence thing... worse yet is when as i mentioned, the pitcher gets worse after your visit.

                      bad omission SCEA!!!

i can't get by like that. too often i need to maintain the confidence otherwise i blow a good pitched game into a potential shortened outting... still win, but have to yank the starter. to have the confidence at 50-60% is a noticable performance drop on the pitch location and feeling of hitability. it goes down faster, (and suddenly), than you can get it back up ...even if you induce back to back groundball outs after you blew your starter's confidence in the first place. the quickest way to get it back up is a mound visit, but sometimes it just doesnt work and it gets worse instead.

I'm pretty sure that's how it is in real life, if it increased your confidence every time that would just be unrealistic.

and pitching coach visits count toward that 1 visit before having to pull a pitcher rule if I recall correctly

Dude - Last time I am gonna explain it.

You can send someone from the dugout(manager or pitching coach) once per inning. If you make a second visit from the dugout (No matter who comes out) = your pitcher must leave the game.

                            SCEA got this exactly right!!!

lol wow, dude who's specifically asking you, someone send you an email directly to you for an answer or something? just don't respond here about this any more then as you said.

Evidently, the way SCEA could have done it is allow us to send even the catcher up (this is the omission) to the mound to settle down the pitcher. looks like mlb rule has no limits on that.

With pitcher confidence so topsy... soon as it goes up from being down, it can go down again in the same inning... which is ultimately fine... but need more mound visits than just coach (mgr/pitching coach) as currently you only have 1 chance per inning to settle your pitcher down.

This could open up for some programming decisions to be made about catcher visit vs. pitching coach visit vs. mgr visit... i would say a catcher visit should freak out the pitcher the least. mgr, the most...but then, maybe the most reward? (rebound in confidence). Maybe a catcher and or pitching coach visit can help rebound the confidence on a specific pitch confidencebar that is tanking (just gave up a hr on a fastball for etc) and some of the overall confidencebar.
