Evidently, the way SCEA could have done it is allow us to send even the catcher up (this is the omission) to the mound to settle down the pitcher. looks like mlb rule has no limits on that.

With pitcher confidence so topsy... soon as it goes up from being down, it can go down again in the same inning... which is ultimately fine... but need more mound visits than just coach (mgr/pitching coach) as currently you only have 1 chance per inning to settle your pitcher down.

This could open up for some programming decisions to be made about catcher visit vs. pitching coach visit vs. mgr visit... i would say a catcher visit should freak out the pitcher the least. mgr, the most...but then, maybe the most reward? (rebound in confidence). Maybe a catcher and or pitching coach visit can help rebound the confidence on a specific pitch confidencebar that is tanking (just gave up a hr on a fastball for etc) and some of the overall confidencebar.
Look - I know nobody asked me specifically....but you replied to me - so I tried to clarify with my reply...NO BIG DEAL!!

SCEA got it right except for the fact that there is no catcher visit.

When you do a mound visit - the pitching coach comes out which is what happens 99% of the time in MLB

When your manager comes out - 99% of the time, it is to make a pitching change.

There is no need to put in a Head Coach visits or pitching coach visits feature....they just need to add a catcher visit feature.

Re: when do you do mound visits for your pitcher?

If you'll notice, the game sends the catcher out to talk with the pitcher from time to time on its own when your pitcher is having a rough go of it... Walk the bases loaded, give up a crucial hit... infielder makes an error, and the bases are loaded.... the cpu will show the cut scene of the catcher out there trying to calm the pitcher down..

I have had good luck lately by not waiting too long to send the hook. I make sure the guys in the pen are loose, then walk out and talk to the kid. If the pitcher confidence takes a dive as a result of my visit, he's gone. You want to have some bad attitude when I am out there to help you, you can go have a seat.

If the confidence stays pat, or bumps up as a result, I check the match ups, and decide if I am going to give him a shot to finish his job out there.

I think they handled it fine, and if they are going to implement to catcher visits, they will have to give the result the same situational measure they do now with the coaches.

Sometimes catchers come out and help out. Most of the time they tell you to do what you have been trying to do since you started not doing what you were supposed to do.

Pitchers and catchers rarely see eye to eye.. I once had a catcher walk out to the mound in college, and tell me , "Try not to suck so much", and walk back to the plate...

Those visits fall into the category of not helping confidence.

In case one wondered about that.

My rule of thumb is asking myself, "If this team gets another hit right now, would I take this pitcher out?" If the answer is yes, then I do a mound visit. Works a good amount of the time for me.

Lol, I've never seen a real strong effect either way. I just take mound visits like I did in real life when I coached

Re: when do you do mound visits for your pitcher?

I usually only send the pitching coach out to the mound when my pitcher's confidence is under 50%, otherwise the confidence just takes more of a hit.

obviously it wasn't good to send the mgr, wasted a visit.

when do you send the mgr 'successfully'?
I actually got a few double plays but 90% of the time I give up 2 more runs after the visit
