I've got a bit of a take on the game that I hope a few of you will find interesting.

I'm an Australian which means Baseball is a sport that has never been on my radar, not because I didn't like it, just because it's not something I've ever been exposed to at any significant level.

I decided to improt MLB 10: The Show after hearing nothing but good things about it and how it was 'the best simulation of any sport ever made'. Having watched a little bit of MLB over the last 12 months I had only a basic understanding of the game going in but figured I could learn as I go.

In the end thats exactly what has happened, I have learnt plenty about the game and enjoyed absolutely every minute of playing the The Show. I love the fact that not every at bat and pitch really matters towards the final result because it makes those magic moments all that more special when they do happen.

I still don't have a compelte grasp on the game but I'm certainly getting there. After spending the majority of my time with the game in RTTS to get an understanding of everything I'm preparing to start my first Franchise. I know I've still got a lot to learn and I'm still only Batting on 'Veteran' and Pitching on 'Rookie' but I've not had as much fun with any game in the past as I am having with this.

So I wouldn't say it's a game just for the hardcore baseball fan as it can be customised to suit just about anyone. Even complete novices like me

This game has helped me get back into following baseball more in-depth, and for that, I am very grateful

I play on All-Star default and am having a blast. This game is the reason I bought a PS3. Now, if I can just figure out how to stop batting like Dave Kingman and Rob Deer (I hardly ever walk b/c I swing at just about anything. I am getting better but I only have 14 walks in 25 games with the Mets) things should only get better.

That makes me feel a lot better actually. I struggle badly to draw walks because I find myself swinging way to often at pitches that aren't even close to the strike zone.

Good to know that bigger baseball fans than me can have the same problem

You're doing it wrong...

No way EVERY game is 1-1 on any setting much less default

As for walks, a batters discipline is played off of a pitchers control...so depending on the batter you may not walk or you may see really close balls that look like strikes and are swinging

My RTTS batter is NEVER walked when I create him, but once I get near 50 in discipline, I get more balls out of the strikezone

I wish I counted the amount of times I tried to mess with sliders and do this and that to make this game fun but no matter what.. it just doesn't happen and I end up cutting the game off in the 5th inning of a boring 1-1 game.

the way the CPU pitches in this game is beyond a headache. pitchers do make mistakes in real life, often actually... but apparently not on The Show. I've tried every difficulty level combination and honestly.. they are almost all the same as far as CPU pitching goes.

I dunno, I've tried everything and I just can't find this game to be that fun at all. I'm not saying I want 10-9 slugfest games every single night.. but still..

has anyone found a way to make this game exciting? instead of so "sim" that you feel like your the San Diego Padres night in and night out?

Have you tried just playing this game on All Star default. For me, the game play well out of the box on All Star. I don't like messing with sliders since messing with them once can lead to an endless fight of constantly making adjustments. I play the game as is and I have had all kinds of games. Also, a 1-1 game is what the game of baseball is all about. Just my opinion

if you dont think this game is fun then you dont enjoy the sport of baseball. the reason this game is as great as it is is because SCEA, unlike so many others, has choosn not to build the gme around those who want an arcade experiece. fun at the expense of realism. whatever the OP is aking for.

Even with its faults (and although some fanboys will jump down your throat for even thinking a negative thought about this game, it DOES have faults)... it's still probably the most addictive game I've ever played.

I play on veteran with the contact and basestealing ablility sliders (cant remember what it's called) turned up a click. It still FEELS realistic, but is a little easier, and enhances my fun factor. I had to come down to play on veteran, LOL. I still lose some games.

it does sound like you may prefer 2k this year, however. It, too is a good game if you're not a big franchise player, the "mlb today" feature is insanely popular

If the game is no longer fun for you then move on to another game. I really enjoy the Show but a couple of things this year finally got on my nerves enough that I was becoming frustrated while playing. So....I moved onto Red Dead Redemption. Now I'm playing ARMA 2. I still play games with friends on occasions but if you are not liking the sim feel to the Show try out other baseball games. Personally I love Pro Yakyuu Spirits and prefer it over the Show. I personally think its more sim then the Show but I have a lot more fun with it. Try to youtube it and see if you like it.

and I want to make sure the OP understands that I'm not trying to downplay his opinion, his enjoyment/understanding of baseball, nor spit in the face of 2k's game.

2k is a different approach and feel than what the Show offers and may be enough to provide the OP the enjoyment he is looking for from a baseball game.

If you feel this way then it's most likely because you don't love baseball and the nuances of the sport. Like someone said, if you don't like this game you don't really enjoy baseball in real life. Try The Bigs or 2k. Both of those games are arcade type baseball games and don't capture the game of real baseball like The Show.
