    Rules for your Franchise Reality?

Ok so with '11 coming out soon, I'd like some input. (franchise mode, 30 team control, 1 "focus" team). Up until now I have always begun my franchise like an alternate reality and played it out making my "focus" teams decisions as well as reviewing every teams pending transactions (most often cancelling them) and making some trades for other teams based on standings, needs, likelihood, etc. I see that many of you try to keep up to date transactions, injuries and such. I am having trouble with this way due to the fact that the standings, player performance and such isn't the same as in real life. Anyone want to sway me one way or the other?

    Easy.
    30 team control....choose your team.
    GLOBAL options on AUTO.
The other teams will run themselves UNLESS you simply step in and make a move for them.

I use the way you use now.

I mean, okay, the Sox have A.Gonzalez now...

But if they are in last place in my franchise, I'm sorry. They're sellers, not buyers.

I like the fantasy aspect, and seeing how things play out vs. real life.

Nah, I inspect pending trades EVERY day and don't let the other teams make unrealistic trades with each other. My question is not so much about control but how it makes sense it maakes to make real life transactions in a season that is not progressing the same as real life. For example, in my current franchise, The Mariners are ahead of The Rangers and in no way would they trade Cliff Lee to them at that point. Hope this makes sense?!?

That's how I do it. Seasn 1 I did not interfere with any CPU trades maybe I should have because there were so many weird trades made, Red Sox trading away Ortiz, Lackey, Wakkefield, Buchholz, but it did work for them, they made it to the ALCS, Twins trading away Mauer. I won;t bother interfering on my second season either since the damage is done, but once I get MLB 11 the show I might interfere with some trades unless the trade logic has been worked on of course then I won't have any need to.

I pretty much do it this way too, but I also keep trades off until June. I know trades happen before that in real life, but I try to make sure most of the action happens around June-July as I saw some had-scratchers in earlier months in The Show.

As for fantasy vs reality, I tend to follow the season's transactions closely (thanks to strut for his transaction thread) until the Trade Deadline and then do my own thing from there. Any big names that crop up later (like Manny Ramirez to the CWS last year, for example) I retrofit afterward, but it is mostly fictional from there.

I enjoye it very much because it gives me a balance between the two. It's enough realism where I don't feel like I am out of touch with the real league (i.e. following big moves that do happen) but I also get to shape my own reality.

Just a word of warning though, if you've never done daily transactions, it's a fair amount of work and tedious if you don't like roster work. It's extremely enjoyable if you like roster stuff though
