Re: MLB 11 The Show Community Day Discussion Thread - Questions, Answers etc.
Couple questions have come to mind for me that would make the game a little better for me.
Any idea if the Futures Game got an XM OK? Did the logic of the players for the Futures Game get an overhaul? Last year we had a bunch of Americans on the World team as well as some scab relief pitchers with MLB service time.
Any information on the Draft in Franchise Mode? Can we edit the drafted players and can we get them signed before the end of the season and placed on low affiliate teams?
I am a 30 team user and manage every aspect of the player movements. Any way that the retirement logic can be manual, including minor leaguers that get retired? I just finished my 10 season and Aaron Hicks was retired by the game due to potential? He was an A rated player. Mark Rogers who was just named the top prospect of the Brewers was retired due to poor free agent market. This should be a manual aspect of the game. Players like Ryan Westmoreland and Grant Desme and even Duffy should be able to be controlled as well as players who get suspended for whatever reasons.
Thanks fellas and keep up the good work,Comment

Re: MLB 11 The Show Community Day Discussion Thread - Questions, Answers etc.
Rags, you had a comment about how outfielders would make an initial step forward in RTTS and it would stop you from catching the ball sometimes. That has been fixed, you shouldn't see that anymore. There's a new system for fielding now where you don't get that first step (unless you turn on the option for that), it's all user controlled from the beginning. Now you get an arrow coming out of the player circle around your feet that points the way you need to go. The arrow is red when you have a long way to go to get to the ball and it turns green as you get closer. It works good, you just have to look for it.
For the pitcher not covering home in RTTS when you are a catcher, that has been fixed. The camera angle for when the RTTS catcher is looking for the ball in the backstop is still being worked on.
I think you guys will really like the new non-goal system. You still have you traditional ones that you have 2-4 weeks to complete like increasing your contact vs lhp or bat .240 over the next two weeks, but I'm told that you manager won't demote you based on that anymore. But like I said earlier today, if the manager tells you to stop doing something in the email system of the RTTS menu screens you should listen. I was benched a couple more games tonight because I kept stealing after being told not too. Those benchings are happening because of my performance on the field, not because of goals that I'm not reaching (there have been no basestealing goals for me yet). The advancement of you player is now a truer mix of your ratings and you performance rather than being goal driven like before. In that vain, I talked to a dev about the lineup logic when you might have better stats than a star. Let's say for examply Ryan Howard is having a crappy year, batting .215 or something while at the same time you are lighting it up in AAA. The dev told me that he wouldn't be surprised if you didn't get the call to play since your performance is better, but he wouldn't expect Howard to be sent down to AAA because his ratings should keep him in the majors. Just his performance compared to yours might give you the nod for an opportunity.
The slider creation of the RTTS player is good. It's different than what I thought coming in. The slider creation is not creating a player that will be pigeon-holed into a life in baseball based on what you set his sliders to. It is tool used to start your player out. If you know from the start that you want to make a player with power, you gear the slider creation towards being powerful. Then your initial creation of your RTTS player will start out with that homerun power (in the AA world). But from that point on you can do whatever you want with the player. If you want to use all your training points on contact points, over time your player will be more proficient in contact vs power batting. The sliders are just a tool for your initial creation, you can still develop into a 5-tool player after years in the league and applying your training points to all phases of the game. I took quite a few screenshots of the slider creation and what your inital player's ratings look like so you get a better idea. I'll post them when I get them off the system.
I also created a RTTS pitcher today and played a couple months with him. My slider creation of him was geared to be a power pitcher but still have starter stamina. I also used the sliders to make him have a dominant pitcher rather than a balanced approach because I wanted a fastballer so I could see how the velocity worked. So I created my pitcher and used a lot of my initial training points on 4-seamer velocity. I came into AA throwing around 93 when I used full force in pitching. My player card said my fastball was around 90 which I was told that is my average. After a couple months of really using most of my points on 4-seamer velocity I got that velocity skill point to 98. At this point I was topping out at 97 mph on my pitches. I asked the devs what I need to do to get pitching in the triple digits since I was near capping my 4-seam velocity's skill points. They explained to me that improving my other pitchers velocity will help increase that. They say it is all tied together. By increasing your changeup velocity skill points (which decreases your changeup speed) will actually help build your fastball's velocity. I'm hoping to have time to get my fastball to 100 tomorrow, we'll see.
A few other questions that I asked that you guys posted that I got answers from are:
When starting in the lower leagues, are pitchers still throwing regularly in the mid to upper 90s with pin-point control?
Is the speed of the fastball glitch thing still in where it would show you at 97 but you could only throw 92?
Second, I would like to know if they have tweaked base running. I would like to see full manual control over sliding and running. This is especially important at home plate where you can basically only hook slide to the outside of the plate.
On the sliding note I would also like to know if the back of the uniforms get dirty this year to. It is really funny to watch your guy slide in feet first on a routine play then get up and the front of his uniform is dirty but his back is spotless.
No dirty uniform butts, just thighs and fronts.
Few RTTS ?s....
1. First in regards to the sliders for creating your player i.e. power vs. speed slider, how exactly does this work.....does it mean the more you tweak this the higher/lower your starting rating is in each category or does it work as a cap method where a fully slidered player to the power side is capped say at a max of 80 speed or something for his career.
2. Also now that they have rehauled the points you earn per game based on each at bat and not the goals like "take a strike" does that mean that all of the coaching signs interactions has been removed? Will my coach no longer ask me to do a hit and run? (side note to the hit and run if it's still in are you still only asked to do a HnR on 0-0 counts?) Do they still ask you to drop a sac. bunt in a key spot on occasion? I read earlier that a coach will still ask you to steal but you won't get hurt for not so I know the answer on the steal sign aspect.
3. And lastly since it seems that you were saying with the new point earning system that it is a lot easier to earn points since you rarely get negative points anymore, is this balanced by making it more expensive to improve or is it going to make getting your attributes up much faster?
I noticed Runs in RTTS are worth 5 points. Nothing wrong with that of course, but many baseball experts and statisticians argue that scoring runs and RBI are two of the most important stats in the game.
Over the last couple of years, I've wondered why the devs give such low points for scoring runs. If you see the screenshots from earlier in this thread, the RTTS player received roughly 4-5 points per putout. Not saying putouts aren't important, but they are fairly routine in the scheme of a game...where runs are precious. Just my 2 cents.
Someone asked about turning catcher mode off in RTTS. No you can't, if you want to be a RTTS catcher you are going to have to call the pitches for every cpu opponent plus take your swings as a catcher. No way around it other than simming full games. I told a dev that I think it'd be nice to have some way to speed up a RTTS catcher game and he said it will be something they might consider in the future.
Someone asked about playing as fielders when you are a RTTS pitcher. No, you aren't going to see that option. RTTS is built to control just one player.
Hopefully tomorrow I'll be able to share some more screen shots of the mode. I really like the Performance Eval screens. They are a nice recap of how you are doing. The training modes are fun too. I'm going to try and play the rest of the ones I haven't done tomorrow too.
Fill free to ask more questions, tomorrow is my last day here so I'll have time to look or ask tomorrow, but that's it.
PS: I snapped off a few Braves player shots today as well for my Braves brethren like Uggla's new uni. I hope to get them on OS tomorrow too.

Nice to hear you took some Braves shots. Hopefully you got Jurrjens and Medlen, whose faces were bad last year. Also, hope you got to see the game on Monday with your delays and whatnot.

No problem Bullit. Some answers to your questions will be in the post somewhere lol. It's gonna be a long post. Glenn played a lot of outfield in RTTS yesterday as an outfielder so I asked him about moving the player around and then if the cpu moved you back, he said he didn't see any of that. I didn't see any of it in any of the infield positions either.

A few other questions that I asked that you guys posted that I got answers from are:
Your going to have about the same experience with this, it is being worked on.
that glitch is fixed.
Slides are suppose to be user controlled, you just have to press the right stick earlier than you think. I was shown the point in which the branch point animation for slides start and it is earlier down the baseline that I expected. I would say you need to start your slide when you are about 75% of the way to second from first if you want to control your slide into second.
No dirty uniform butts, just thighs and fronts.
Hopefully I explained this good enough for you earlier in this post.
You still get the base coach from time to time. But if you don't do what he says you don't lose training points. You might get an email from your manager though saying to pay attention, like the ones I was getting telling me to stop trying to steal so much. I've only seen the base coach one time telling me to do something in the 40-50 games I've played though. Maybe my ratings are just now getting strong enough that I can be called on to do hit and runs.
You are going to level up faster it looks like. I asked a dev a similar question and he said the new model is geared to level you up easier rather than the heartache the previous model would give you with all the failed in-game goals.
I'll bring it up to a dev and see what their thoughts are. Personally I think 5 points per run is fine, but it does seem a little low when you compare it too getting 6 points for just having an OK at-bat that just gets you on-base. But you have to remember that if you just had an OK at-bat that originally got you on base, after you scored and get that 5 points, those two combine to be 11 points and that's a good point total for an at-bat.

The post is quite large for me to quote, but thanks for taking the time to address that one aukevin. I nearly forgot that I brought that one up earlier, but I'm glad it's been changed.
I think I have one last question, when you start off with your RTTS career, do you start off in the bullpen/bench like in previous years or are you a starter from the get go?Comment

Re: MLB 11 The Show Community Day Discussion Thread - Questions, Answers etc.
Random questions for ANYONE who knows the answers. I am at work and cant run through the whole thread.
1) is the fielding improved. I HATE suction and it gets better every year. I'm hoping this year to have full control when making a catch with OF.
2) are the goofy animations that take 12 seconds before you can throw the ball fixed?
Thanks!!Comment

Just wanted to address something someone posted a few pages back. They commented on how last year, Braves fans were always begging and complaining for info, and that someone this year was doing something similar. Grow up. We just do what any other team's fans do on this forum, it's just that there's more of us then say, Reds fans, etc. The Braves are the third most popular baseball team in the country, behind the Yankees and Red Sox, and look at all the requests for those teams over the years on this forums. There's no reason to get mad over one fan's affinity for things surrounding and involving their team.Comment
