Re: MLB 11 The Show Demo Available Now, Post Your Impressions Here

Ok so I have a few "wishes" I guess you could call them:

1: The ability to full stadium range for custom cameras. I was just a little disappointed that there was a zoom out limit. I planned on having a pretty far zoomed out view for pitching. Almost like the HIGH fieling cam. Obvioulsy that wouldnt be for everyone but I wanted to try it.
Sure there was a reason though so not a big deal.

2: I love franchise and controlling players BUT I'd rather have the players ratings be 100% in control of the results and not partly due to my interaction. So what I usually do is play 1 game out of a series so I can get play time in and have mutiple games of just ratings determining the results(sim or MOM). That way my inept play would be ironed out by a few simmed games lol
MOM would solve the "have the players ability be 100% the deciding factor but no my need to also play.
What I'd like is the ability to player lock on either a position or player. That way I could play every game and just rotate a player to control each game. I'd also would LOVE an auto pitch feature so I could just play D when in the field and let the CPU control the pitching.
With that said I'm sooooo pumped for the retail version.
    Bring it on.

The on screen display is just so bland and boring...Get me engaged in the situation by giving more information. I don't want to slow the game down with pauses and digging through menus screens. How many times to you position your players? Me, never because it's a pain the butt. It shouldn't be and it doesn't have to be. I don't know all the attributes of all Major League players and I may be missing opportunities, for example, to steal because I have no idea how fast a guy is. Maybe the catcher has crummy accurancy/arm and my guy has marginal speed, is it worth the risk to steal? I have no idea because I'm not going to pause the game and dig through stats for 5 minutes for every situation. The game is slow enough already. Relevant stats and attributes should be in your face, all the time. The game would be so much more engaging.
If they ever did this, I pray they would have an option to turn it off. I would hate that

I love this year that they have multiple animations for balls in the dirt and when going after a strikeout approach unless you really just jam one in the dirty the catcher will block out in front. Yea I can use my change-up again lol

Also the weather wind effects for balls off the bat is outstanding the guys reallu nailed it as you can see a line drive pulled start to really tail away.

Also noticed the outfielders miss balls when diving unlike last year where almost 99% of the time is was that pop slide animations this year it goes off the arm leg head anything if they time it wrong or take to much risk on coming trying to make the big play which usually = *** and elbows get the running to the warning track lol

I basically pressed select for a second and I knew the new batters hot and cold zones, or pitch count or pitcher energy or whatever info I may have been looking for:

notice I do it for every batter (or pitcher) - now granted in '10 the base runner attributes showed up on the start menu, but this year I believe they are all on the same screen, as well as on the base running windows.
hehe...that's funny. You must be a speed reader because I watched the video (:08) like 10 times and couldn't get all that information you claimed to have gotten. No sale on that. even with the pitcher view like you're using there's no reason why they couldn't put stat boxes in the upper left and right corners of the screen. It wouldn't be obstructive at all.

quick question...how's the fielding with the analog...I would be playing the demo but for some strange reason it's taking hours and hours (6335 minutes remaining) to download so I just canceled it...is it determined by how hard you push the analog stick to how much power you put into a throw and is it difficult to throw accurately?

I am disappointed that there is no collision detection for plays at the bag or at the plate. For instance, I was pitching with the Giants with a runner on third for the Rangers. Ball was hit to first and the play at the plate was anti-climatic. The catcher stood his ground and then the runner just morphed right through him and slid into home plate. The catcher did not budge, as if he had only been facing a ghost runner coming from third. For a second there, I thought that the ump would call him safe b/c I couldn't tell that the CPU engine even recognized that my catcher was blocking the plate with the ball...thankfully he was called out, but wow man, plays at the plate are supposed to be arguably the most exciting in a game.

Sounds like a bug in the demo, because there is collision plays at the plate that get triggered.

I wish we could at least make pitching changes in the demo. I just played a 12 inning game but lost in the 12th because lincecum had thrown 130 something pitches and had no stamina left.

Also, I only had 2 hits in the entire game (both in the first inning). I think it's time to drop down to veteran hitting

I was hoping they would add to the real time presentation...the only thing I see that they added is they took out the players holding their helmets rounding the bases after a hr.

i just wanted to share my story of poor workhorse lincecum haha. I actually think the demo is of great quality, I haven't encountered any glitches or anything.

I don't remember feeling this pleased with the demo last year

My catcher stays in place and my pitcher runs after the ball. The problem is that the ball was a much easier play for the catcher (it was probably a quarter of the way to the mound), and as a result the runner was safe. There was a runner on first base at the time so the catcher didn't have to stay home for any particular reason.
Anything that's not good baseball is going to stick out, and what Bob said was our only complaint, after playing it on and off all night.
That, and trying to get Hamilton to go after something at the knees.

But like I said before, for us this demo is all about getting the skills back up to smooth play. Staying with all-analog, especially because it's a challenge and it's so rewarding when you get it right. And highly motivated to practice so the franchise can start up right away. (So glad the demo came out earlier than the game!!)
He's already got all 3 working pretty good, especially pitching which he's loving, no complaints about fielding or batting and feeling he can be up and running with both in no time. At this early stage it's a great feeling to make a smooth short lob to Timmy running over to cover first.

Just tried metered pitching and though it does seem smoother this year, after using analog pitching I could never go back to the meter. It just seems so random now. I think to myself, how did I enjoy metered pitching all these years. Its night and day how much more intuitive the new analog pitching is. Same with batting, analog hitting just feels so natural. The only thing i'm not sold on yet is throwing. It still seems a bit akward to me, but I am starting to warm up to it.

with legend I am sure once I get fielding practice I will be able to find the movement to actually not throw a off the side ground ball like I am trying to throw out a bunter who laid a perfect bunt lol

But yea legend you have to agree this year pitchers will have to pitch exp online you fall behind in the count its incredibly hard to hit the black 3 times just like in real life where it only takes 1 mistake pitch and whammoooo , I expect lots of walks this year

                              - i noticed if i switch the pitching view to anything BUT broadcast, the crowd behind gthe plate isnt blurry.

                              weird.

anyone know why this might be?

Not sure how I feel about analog pitching yet. It didn't seem like I was too easily hitting my spots, but I'm not entirely sure what I'm doing. still trying to get a feel for exactly how each part of the process affects the pitch.

edit - I'll say this much. I just got a punchout and it felt very satisfying.
