Re: MLB 11 The Show Demo Available Now, Post Your Impressions Here
ALSO, I am seeing tons of posts about the analog fielding system and throwing errors. After five games or so, I have not made a single throwing error. Am I missing something? I am playing with default settings. It seems to me like you just point to the base you are throwing to, correct?
I will qualify that by saying that I use AUTO fielding and Analog throwing...I just assumed that this combination was easier and that's why I wasn't seeing the throwing errors that others are.Comment

Re: MLB 11 The Show Demo Available Now, Post Your Impressions Here
Same here, brought this up numerous times. I think the problem is that it looks perfectly fine on the Sony sets they're testing the game on (so what the CD guys saw may not hold up for what we see on our sets). For me the coulours were spot on up untill '10 came around.
I hope they can look into it because I use that feature a lot but now it has almost got to the point I can only use it for location and not for pitch type.
While we're on the subject in the 'select' screen to check the hot and cold zones the red and blue also look like there is a blur over them. Not as bad as the pitch history but obvious not that clear as it should be.
Both these colour changes happened from The Show 09 to 10. Maybe that helps.
I'll try to take some screens when I get home tonight.
Thanks.
I have a Sony 42" Bravia and cannot see the colors as well.. They are very lightly colored but it seems that it should be easier to see them more clearly.. If I remember, I thought it was changed after a patch for MLB 10 last year.. Either way, hope this can be changed as it adds some brain activity for each at bat.. Love the demo.. I cannot stand to hear Karros say Bumgarner again though!"if only you've seen, what I've seen with your eyes.."

Re: MLB 11 The Show Demo Available Now, Post Your Impressions Here
The analog pitching is nice, the hitting seems a little too difficult with the analog stick so far but it is still better than zone hitting from last year. I've been playing with the pitching view "broadcast", batting view "catcher 6", "analog" pitching and "timed" (one button) hitting. The lighting effects as the innings progress is amazing.

Not impressed... The analog controls stuff is not interesting to me at all. I tried it and thought it was arcade. The fielding/throwing analog thing is ridiculous... I have a feeling the only place this could be useful is when people are playing as themselves or as a player online and the people who have good controls will be the better players. I can understand that functionality when the game has that online capability down the line, but for now I am glad we have the old classic options.
I look forward to the new online functions and overall game-play.David P
Thank you SCEA, for adopting my ideas for a Playoff feature and eventually an 'online franchise'. No credit needed to be given... I am just happy you are working towards it...Comment

alright, let's get real. if you don't wanna try anything NEW, then disable all the analogs and play the same game as last year. If you like a challenge and expect that the game developers KNEW what they were doing by adding analog, then play this year's game as intended - analog.
Granted, it's frustrating as heck to try to get the timing down with ALL the analog controls - hitting, pitching, fielding. But you know what? once I get used to it, this is gonna be the best baseball video game ever.
Everyone needs to quit whining and complaining and just play the game. If you wanna play same controls as in the past, fine - just keep in mind you're gonna be missing out on MLB '11s full potential.
I don't agree with missing out on the full potential of the game because both analog and digital controls are fully featured to the user so they can achieve the full potential as they please.
One last thing and I'm happy that they brought back was the check swing on the power swing! I missed that dearly in last years version of the game.Comment

Re: MLB 11 The Show Demo Available Now, Post Your Impressions Here
The demo makes the point I've been making for years about Classic Pitching: Its HARD
With analog I could not only put the ball where I wanted but I could further influence break by purposely moving the stick offline.
For those who have been pitching with analog only, try Classic. It is brutally hard to hit a spot. It may actually be too random.
Its funny, because in a recent interview on MLBTV a great pitcher (can't remember who) talked about how hard it is to hit spots. Even on this site, Doc was quoted as telling the 2K folks that hitting your spots is way harder than the game makes it for the user.
So, I'm thinking if you really want a challenge pitching, its Classic for The Show and analog for2K.
As far as hitting goes, I dont like that you can only time your swing with analog. I want to be in control of where I place my bat. Think I'll stick with zone.Comment

I've played about 10 demo games with the settings on default and I haven't made a throwing error either...

Admittedly it is not too tough to keep the ball thrown straight on that mode. Put the game up on Hall of Fame or Legend and you'll find it is much tougher and requires greater concentration ...Comment

I was just gonna post but you wrapped it up as far as I am concerned.

I do like the "clean" look of Classic pitching, though, and still use it in MLB 10.Currently Playing:

Or, if you want to stick with Analog, bump up the difficulty and adjust the sliders. On All-Star, I was able to pretty much hit my spots whenever I wanted, but on Hall Of Fame, that doesn't happen.
I do like the "clean" look of Classic pitching, though, and still use it in MLB 10.
I've been pitching on HOF the last couple of nights, with analog. My control is worse...MUCH worse. Now, I admit, I haven't fully mastered the new meter, especially on the upswing, but I'm currently feeling like HOF is slightly too 'singles' and 'fouls' happy.
On AS, my strike percentages and walks allowed were actually very realistic, I just wasn't giving up quite enough hits. On HOF, my strike percentages are down, moderately, but well placed pitches...even with Lincecum, seem to be inordinately fouled off or roped up the middle for a single.
I was especially turned off by a 1-2 foul ball from Kinsler, on an up and in 95MPH fastball...keeping in mind it was the first inning, and I had yet to pitch one there. And worse yet, he was WAY out in front of it.
At least in the demo, the bridge between AS and HOF pitching is much deeper than last years game...meaning, I wish the increase in difficulty was slightly less noticeable.
Granted, I'm only using number ones...so who's to say that in the retail version, AS won't play balanced on Default. It may...that, or when I get better with the new meter on HOF, maybe the things that are bugging me now will slightly change course...singles turning into groundouts, fouls turning into misses, etc. I'm slightly less optimistic about this than I normally would be, due to the fact that HOF has been made moderately tougher this year. Last year, on HOF, I still felt that my hits per inning were a little inflated.
Mainly, I was hoping to at least be set on difficulty level by the launch, but now I'm still a little unsure. Though, I'd gather I'll start on AS.
FWIW, I'd try Classic on AS but the vibration on my controller doesn't work anymore. I plan on picking up a new one soon.Last edited by Heroesandvillains; 03-02-2011, 08:01 PM.Comment

You're talking about swing influence right? Yes, it's there but now you have to hold R2 I believe while hitting the R stick.Comment
