Re: MLB 11 The Show Demo Q&A, discussion thread

does fielding in the outfield have a greater variety and sense of drama when players chase down flyballs?...And did they tone down or even replace the sliding on one knee basket catch in the outfield that seemed to occur with way too much frequency and precision?

Also are there more varied plays in the holes (shortstops and 2nd basemen) or is there also that one knee sliding and backhand then throw animation that also was far too frequent in 10?

Im hoping for a bit more variety and organic animations to make the gameplay feel more dynamic this year. Because I dont think I am going to buy the game just for the analog control changes which I dont think I will use. So I am hoping that there is enough of an improvement in other areas to encourage me to pick it up

Also, have they added anything like an ALMANAC Feature or History feature that lets you sort thru previous seasons stats, standings, boxscores, milestones and any other data in your Franchise over the seasons as you play?

I already have 2 Franchises in progress in 09 and 10 and the last thing I want is to start this all over again if there isnt much of a difference to the franchise and play.

( btw, I dont understand why they simply dont just add an IMPORT FRANCHISE feature so users can carry over their older franchises from older versions like 08, 09, 10. They would probablly entice alot more sales to those that just dont want to start their dynasties all over again)

I think so. Would you be able to tell me if I'm doing something wrong when hitting with analog from the broadcast view?

It seems like it's reacting as though I'm hitting from behind the batter. Anyone know if I need to change a setting?
Thanks! And thanks to you guys for making another great game, I can't wait 'til March 8th.

Sucks I can't DL the demo, most ppl in canada will understand cause the demo is 3GB and canada has an internet limit per month, so 3GB in a day is like 5% of my limit right there. Still better than the potential pay per gb thing that might happen soon

Haha, ok, so maybe that's the problem. Should I stick with timing only? (btw, I'm thrilled that's there for all difficulty levels this year)

Pause, scroll over to "Gameplay Options". There will be options for the different views there.

I'm wondering if there is any element of aiming at the ball using analog hitting, or if it's purely or mostly timing.

Here's a question (perhaps a dumb one) as I haven't even played the demo yet -- still downloading:

With the analog controls while pitching showing the direction you aim the ball, does this provide a giveaway of location to your opponent when you're playing a good ol'-fashioned two-player game?

If your going to hit from that view maybe its best to stick with Timing I can't really fathom how you could enjoy analog from that view.

It's in the gameplay options menu - pause the game and press right to get to the menu, and you'll find Hitting View, Pitching View, and Fielding View offense/defense among the many options.

You can't customize the hitting and pitching cameras yet, but that's supposed to be in the final game.

Ok. So far I've really liked it (hit one HR with Andrus, felt sweet). There's just the matter of left and right being backwards. I'll keep experimenting, it's not the end of the world if I have to go to Timing. Thanks Russell.

I believe you can swing left and right. Push up and left for pitched inside (RH batter) and up right for outside pitches.
