Haha.. Wow. I could NOT figure out why the PCI wasn't moving while using the analog controls!

So the left stick is useless??? I was having lots of trouble hitting earlier. Hopefully this litle tidbit will help me out. Pitching worked great.. but hitting was so hard!

I know it seems odd, but analog is designed to have you swing left, straight up, and right on the upswing.

So down and in to a righty, from the catcher's view, is up and to the left on the upswing.

If you push up and to the left for a pitch down and in to a righty, then how do you swing when the pitch is up and in to a righty?

It's always pull back then push up... The ai automatically adjusts for high/low....

              The same. LOL

Think of a Birdseye view. One where you have no perception of height. The up and in pitch would look exactly like the down and in pitch. Right?

The game determines height for you. You determine center, left and right. Does this make sense?

                Lol, fellas:

                1) To swing; pull back at release, then push forward to swing. If the pitch is to the left, push the stick towards the left, if it's to the right, push towards the right.

                2) Pre-pitch; hold R2, then use the face buttons to guess pitch, the LEFT stick to guess location, and the RIGHT stick to influence direction (left, right, grounder [down], fly ball [up]). Pressing circle pre-pitch WITHOUT holding R2 will trigger a contact swing, X a contact swing (which is the default if you press nothing) and square is power swing.

Hopefully this clears it up, but remember, there is an in-game controls manual

Guys I couldn't hit for the life of me either. I have found something that works great for me. You don't need to pull the stick back all the way.

When pitcher is coming forward with his front foot pull the stick back SLOWLY. You only need to go back less than halfway. Now when you push up to swing you don't have as far to go. This works out perfectly for me. By pulling back slowly It makes me wait for the pitch better. I used to have a hard time with changeups and now I'm ready to crush them. You won't be late on fastballs either doing it this way.

Give it a try. Before the pitcher starts his windup practice how far you go back with the stick. It really is not necessary to go all the way back.

Hope this helps someone. I now can get hits and homeruns. My biggest problem is still moving the stick to the proper side however but least now I make solid contact and timing is normal or superb most often.

Why are you LOL? You don't have it right either. LEFT STICK DOES NOTHING FOR ANALOG! Any confusion on the controls people should go to the community day sticky and look at hitting.

Fixed! And I wasn't laughing AT anyone, just in general at how confused this thread is.

One thing I have done and noticed a difference was holding the controller alittle different to compensate for my gimpiness.

Before I was using the tip of my thumb to pull back and swing, resulting in my favoring the left side. Now I put the middle of my thumb on on the analog stick and grip the controller alittle higher than usual.

I am seeing big results. Just in the batters eye. I am consistently swinging up the middle... which is really where you want to be if you work the count.

Good thread, i def learned something. im batting .250ish on HOF analog, but I've been using Lstick this whole time so maybe I'll drop in a couple more hits when I focus on one joystick.

Just a tip for everyone struggling on analog: turn guess pitch OFF, it's better to guess fastball/offspeed in your head. this way you have a 50/50 chance of timing the ball correctly and you don't lose PCI coverage if you guess 4sfb and you get a 2sfb.

Just an FYI dmb, but I'm playing the demo as we speak, and you DO still use the left stick pre-pitch to guess location.

Do you have to pull down on the right analog stick earlier or later depending on the batters "leg kick"? e.g. Josh Hamiltons kick takes longer to set up than Adrian Beltre? Do you have to take account for this?
